Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Optics Light and Lasers written by Dieter Meschede and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-06-25 with total page 559 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Starting from the concepts of classical optics, Optics, Light and Lasers introduces in detail the phenomena of linear and nonlinear light matter interaction, the properties of modern laser sources, and the concepts of quantum optics. Several examples taken from the scope of modern research are provided to emphasize the relevance of optics in current developments within science and technology. The text has been written for newcomers to the topic and benefits from the author's ability to explain difficult sequences and effects in a straightforward and easily comprehensible way. To this second, completely updated and enlarged edition, new chapters on quantum optics, quantum information, matter waves, photonic fibres and materials have been added, as well as more than 100 problems on laser physics and applied optics.

Download or read book Laser Processing and Chemistry written by Dieter Bäuerle and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 649 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laser Processing and Chemistry gives an overview of the fundamentals and applications of laser--matter interactions, in particular with regard to laser material processing. Special attention is given to laser-induced physical and chemical processes at gas--solid, liquid--solid, and solid--solid interfaces. Starting with the background physics, the book proceeds to examine applications of laser techniques in micro-machining, and the patterning, coating, and modification of material surfaces. Students, engineers, and manufacturers alike will find this book an invaluable reference work for the state of the art in laser processing.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discoveries and inventions periodically cause new technological developments within human societies. Key inventions and their accompanying economic and social changes can be seen as the main promoters of technological and structural progress. Many examples of change can be traced back to key inventions. At the end of the last century, one of the major lines of technological development was the implementation of electricity, the introduction of electric current. Inno vations were generated both by applying the "low quality" thermal and energy transmission properties, as well as by studying "high quality" characteristics like signal processing and electromagnetic wave propagation. In the field of signal processing, particular devices like the thermionic valve, the transistor and the (micro) chip deserve mention. Regarding energy generation, distribution and consumption, huge investments were made in coal and nuclear power plants, as well as in consumer and industrial electric appliances. Which innovations can be expected to improve or replace some of the applications (products, processes) of electricity? Thinking of an important technology invented about three decades ago - the laser - coherent light plays the key role in the process ("light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation"). Thus the new term technologies of light can be used for such innovations. Extending the definition, "technologies of light" or "photonics" can be defined as any methods, processes or products which make use of the spectrum of light, and any systems whose function is to study, measure, transform or transmit by means of light.
