Book Laser Interferometry of Unsteady Underexpaned Jets

Download or read book Laser Interferometry of Unsteady Underexpaned Jets written by Fritz Hermann Ernst Oertel and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report describes an experiment to obtain optical data for an unsteady, under-expanded axisymmetric jet issuing from a one inch diameter tube at supersonic velocity. A technique is described which has been found useful to obtain sequence photographic data for such transient processes. In this technique, a bleachable absorber is used to generate multiple laser pulses so that instantaneous images of the laser-illuminated event are swept onto a fixed film drum with a mirror rotating at approximately 16.2 mm/microsecond. (Comments on our experience with high voltage double-pulsing a Pockels cell are also included). Sequence (multiple frame) laser interferograms made by backlighting aMach-Zehnder optical interferometer used to observe the flow are shown and discussed. Single frame spark shadow photographs which give qualitative support to the interferograms are also shown. (Author).

Book A Real Time Interferometry System for Unsteady Flow Measurements

Download or read book A Real Time Interferometry System for Unsteady Flow Measurements written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A simple real-time interferometer system was developed for use in dynamic stall and other unsteady flow research at compressible flow speeds. A conventional schlieren system was modified to operate as a point diffraction interferometer. The implementation of this interferometer is discussed and results of trails with different point diffractors are presented in this paper. The performance of the interferometer under various flow conditions was investigated. Results are presented which show the effects of the interferometer parameters such as pinhole size and pinhole-plate optical density on the performance of the system.

Book Interferometry

Download or read book Interferometry written by Ivan Padron and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-03-21 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the most recent studies on interferometry and its applications in science and technology. It is an outline of theoretical and experimental aspects of interferometry and their applications. The book is divided in two sections. The first one is an overview of different interferometry techniques and their general applications, while the second section is devoted to more specific interferometry applications comprising from interferometry for magnetic fusion plasmas to interferometry in wireless networks. The book is an excellent reference of current interferometry applications in science and technology. It offers the opportunity to increase our knowledge about interferometry and encourage researchers in development of new applications.

Book Evaluation and Application of a New Interferometry Technique for Compressible Flow Research

Download or read book Evaluation and Application of a New Interferometry Technique for Compressible Flow Research written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-06 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new method for obtaining large scale interferograms of flow fields in real time was investigated. The method was based on the point diffraction interferometry technique. The method was modified to accommodate the higher laser power required in recording transonic and supersonic flow fields. Basic tests were conducted in unsteady flows and flows about circulation control airfoils at transonic speeds. It was found that vibration was not a significant factor in the application of the system. In the case of the circulation control airfoils, the real-time viewing allowed the identification of the Coanda jet interaction with the external flow and the shedding of large scale vortices. The method proved to be very sensitive to the optical quality of the wind tunnel windows. The results obtained were compared with earlier interferograms obtained using interferometry. These results were in qualitative agreement. Bachalo, William D. and Houser, Michael C. Unspecified Center...

Book An Interferometric Investigation of the Near Design Point Flow Over Supercritical Aerofoil BGK 1

Download or read book An Interferometric Investigation of the Near Design Point Flow Over Supercritical Aerofoil BGK 1 written by N. Pollock and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A recently developed laser interferometer was used to study the upper surface flow over supercritical aerofoil BGK-1 near its design condition. The tests were carried out at a chord Reynolds number of 1.65 x 1000000 with transition free and artificially fixed at various chordwise locations. The interferograms were analysed to produce instantaneous surface pressure distributions for comparison with conventional time averaged distributions obtained from surface tappings. The results show that the upper surface flow is unsteady with both fixed and free transition. They also indicate that artificially fixing transition in low Reynolds number tests does not produce an accurate simulation of the high Reynolds number flow for conditions near the design point. Book Particle Image Velocimetry

Download or read book Particle Image Velocimetry written by Markus Raffel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-12-19 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results from several applications of particle image velocimetry (PIV) to unsteady flows at a laboratory scale have been published, and commercial products are now available for more general laboratory use, but for certain industrially important applications, reliable equipment is often available only from in-house research and development teams. This PIV handbookis intended to transfer know-how from PIV development laboratories to end-users in industry and universities. The book discusses the scientific and technical aspects required to set up a PIV system, allows users to assess the problems involved in the application of PIV, and enables them to design, optimize, and use PIV systems to meet their special needs.
