Book Fourier Transform Spectroscopy Instrumentation Engineering

Download or read book Fourier Transform Spectroscopy Instrumentation Engineering written by Vidi Saptari and published by SPIE Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many applications today require the Fourier-transform (FT) spectrometer to perform close to its limitations, such as taking many quantitative measurements in the visible and in the near infrared wavelength regions. In such cases, the instrument should not be considered as a perfect "black box." Knowing where the limitations of performance arise and which components must be improved are crucial to obtaining repeatable and accurate results. One of the objectives of this book is to help the user identify the instrument's bottleneck.

Book Optical Interferometry 2e

Download or read book Optical Interferometry 2e written by P. Hariharan and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-10-20 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the first edition of Optical Interferometry was published, interferometry was regarded as a rather esoteric method of making measurements, largely confined to the laboratory. Today, however, besides its use in several fields of research, it has applications in fields as diverse as measurement of length and velocity, sensors for rotation, acceleration, vibration and electrical and magnetic fields, as well as in microscopy and nanotechnology. Most topics are discussed first at a level accessible to anyone with a basic knowledge of physical optics, then a more detailed treatment of the topic is undertaken, and finally each topic is supplemented by a reference list of more than 1000 selected original publications in total. Historical development of interferometry The laser as a light source Two-beam interference Techniques for frequency stabilization Coherence Electronic phase measurements Multiple-beam interference Quantum effects in optical interference Extensive coverage of the applications of interferometry, such as measurements of length, optical testing, interference microscopy, interference spectroscopy, Fourier-transform spectroscopy, interferometric sensors, nonlinear interferometers, stellar interferometry, and studies of space-time and gravitation

Book Quantum Enhancement of a 4 km Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Detector

Download or read book Quantum Enhancement of a 4 km Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Detector written by Sheon S. Y. Chua and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-05-09 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work in this thesis was a part of the experiment of squeezed light injection into the LIGO interferometer. The work first discusses the detailed design of the squeezed light source which would be used for the experiment. The specific design is the doubly-resonant, traveling-wave bow-tie cavity squeezed light source with a new modified coherent sideband locking technique. The thesis describes the properties affecting the squeezing magnitudes and offers solutions which improve the gain. The first part also includes the detailed modeling of the back-scattering noise of a traveling Optical Parametric Oscillator (OPO). In the second part, the thesis discusses the LIGO Squeezed Light Injection Experiment, undertaken to test squeezed light injection into a 4km interferometric gravitational wave detector. The results show the first ever measurement of squeezing enhancement in a full-scale suspended gravitational wave interferometer with Fabry-Perot arms. Further, it showed that the presence of a squeezed-light source added no additional noise in the low frequency band. The result was the best sensitivity achieved by any gravitational wave detector. The thesis is very well organized with the adequate theoretical background including basics of Quantum Optics, Quantum noise pertaining to gravitational wave detectors in various configurations, along with extensive referencing necessary for the experimental set-up. For any non-experimental scientist, this introduction is a very useful and enjoyable reading. The author is the winner of the 2013 GWIC Theses Prize.
