Book Laser induced Fluorescence Spectroscopy of the Alkoxy Radicals

Download or read book Laser induced Fluorescence Spectroscopy of the Alkoxy Radicals written by Jinjun Liu and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All of the above data reveal the structure and properties of the alkoxy radicals, which are important intermediate species in the oxidation of hydrocarbons, a reaction that is critical in both combustion and atmospheric chemistry. The spectroscopy is a prerequisite for subsequent dynamic studies. Our work is also of special theoretical interest due to the fact that methoxy radical provides a benchmark case of the Jahn-Teller effect coupled with spin-orbit interaction, giving rise to a potential energy surface which stringently tests modern ab initio calculations.

Book Electronic Spectroscopy of the Alkoxy Radicals

Download or read book Electronic Spectroscopy of the Alkoxy Radicals written by Sandhya Gopalakrishnan and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Alkoxy radicals were produced in a supersonic free-jet expansion and probed via laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy. Over 20 alkoxy radicals containing from 3-12 carbon atoms were investigated at moderate resolution by probing the B-X electronic transition to obtain vibrationally resolved spectra. The interpretation of these spectra in terms of serving as a diagnostic for detection and excited state vibrations and/or different conformations is discussed. The diagnostics for the alkoxy radicals was further extended by studies aimed at obtaining their molecular structure. A few bands in the vibrationally resolved spectra of the primary alkoxy radicals, 1-propoxy, 1-butoxy, and 1-pentoxy were studied under high resolution to resolve the rotational structure. A method for the detailed rotational analysis of these bands was developed which involved a comparison of the experimentally determined molecular constants with those obtained from quantum chemistry computations. The rotational constants of the ground and excited states as well as the spin-rotation constants in the ground state were obtained from these spectra. A rotational bar-coding technique was used to assign the vibronic bands based upon the principle that the rotational structure of a given vibronic band bar-codes for the species carrying the spectrum. The assigned bands can be used as unambiguous diagnostics of the radical species, its structural isomer, and its conformation. The spectra also shed light on the dynamical properties of these radicals which will be important in ultimately understanding their photochemistry.

Book Laser Spectroscopy of Combustion Intermediates in a Supersonic Jet Expansion

Download or read book Laser Spectroscopy of Combustion Intermediates in a Supersonic Jet Expansion written by Prabhakar Misra and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A detailed analysis of the laser-induced fluorescence spectra of jet-cooled alkoxy, alkylthio and aromatic radicals has helped to characterize these radicals spectroscopically. All three groups of radicals are involved in the chemistry of organic fuel combustion. A clearer knowledge about the spectroscopy of these chemical intermediates is necessary for improved understanding of the free-radical controlled reaction steps occurring in combustion processes.
