Download or read book A Review of Laser Photofragmentation Fragment Detection Techniques for Chemical Analysis of the Gas Phase written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laser photofragmentation/fragment detection techniques utilize one or multiple lasers for photolysis of the analyte species and spectroscopic detection of the characteristic photofragments. Fragment detection techniques include laser-induced fluorescence, photoionization, prompt emission, stimulated emission, and laser ionization recombination emission spectroscopies. Applications for chemical analysis of the gas phase has been performed by the detection of atomic and molecular fragments. Recent reports on photofragmentation/fragment detection approaches are presented, and the outlook for future applications is discussed.

This book was released on 1986-06-01 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Systems and tools of computer algebra (Like AXIOM, Derive, FORM, Mathematica, Maple, Mupad, REDUCE, Macsyma…) let us manipulate extremely complex algebraic formulae symbolically on a computer. Contrary to numerics these computations are exact and there is no loss of accuracy. After decades of research and development, these tools are now becoming as indispensable in Science and Engineering as traditional number crunching already is.The ZiF'94 workshop is amongst the first devoted specifically to applications of computer algebra (CA) in Science and Engineering. The book documents the state of the art in this area and serves as an important reference for future work.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the lectures and seminars presented at the NATO Advanced Study Institute on "Applied Laser Spectroscopy" the fourteenth course of the Europhysics School of Quantum Electronics, held under the supervision of the Quantum Electronics Division of the European Physical Society. The Institute was held at Centro "I Cappuccini", San Miniato, Tuscany, Italy, September 3-15,1989. The Europhysics School of Quantum Electronics was started in 1970 with the aim of providing instruction for young researchers and advanced students already engaged in the area of quantum electronics or wishing to switch to this area from a different background. Presently the school is under the direction of Professors F.T. Arecchi and M Inguscio, University of Florence and Prof. H. Walther University of Munich and has the headquarters at the National Institute of Optics (INO), Firenze, Italy. Each time the directors choose a subject of particular interest, alternating fundamental topics with technological ones, and ask colleagues specifically competent in a given area to take the scientific responsibility for that course.

Book Detection of Energetic Materials by Laser Photofragmentation fragment Detection and Pyrolysis laser induced Fluorescence

Download or read book Detection of Energetic Materials by Laser Photofragmentation fragment Detection and Pyrolysis laser induced Fluorescence written by Rosario C. Sausa and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trace concentrations of energetic materials such as 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT), pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), and hexahydro-l,3,5-tinnitro-s-triazine (RDX) are detected by laser photofragmentationlfragment detection (PF/FD) spectrometry. In this technique, a single laser operating near 227 nm photofragments the parent molecule and facilitates the detection of the characteristic NO fragment by means of its A2lr-X2 II (0,0) transitions near 227 nm. Fragment detection is accomplished by resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI) with miniature electrodes and by laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) with a photodetector. Experiments are also conducted in the visible region using 453.85-nm radiation for photofragmentation and fragment detection. Sand samples contaminated with PETN and RDX are analyzed by a pyrolysis/LIF technique, which involves pyrolysis of the energetic material with subsequent detection of the pyrolysis products NO and NO2 by LIF and PF/LlF, respectively, near 227 nm. Applying these techniques to the trace analysis of TNT, PETN, and RDX at ambient pressure in room air is demonstrated with limits of detection (S/N = 3) in the range of low parts-per-billion to parts-per-million for a 20-s integration time with l0-l20 micronj of laser energy at 226.8 nm and 5 mJ at 453.85 mm An increase in detection sensitivity is projected with an increase in laser energy and an improved system design. The analytical merits of these techniques are discussed and compared to other laser-based techniques.

Book Unimolecular Photodissociation Studies in Molecular Beams and Flow Tubes

Download or read book Unimolecular Photodissociation Studies in Molecular Beams and Flow Tubes written by Wyatt Gibson Merrill and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We conduct studies utilizing unimolecular photodissociation in two apparatus: (1) a high vacuum molecular beam chamber capable of time-of-flight mass spectrometry and velocity map imaging and (2) a newly constructed high-pressure flow tube apparatus with laser-induced fluorescence detection. Tunable, pulsed ns-laser systems initiate photodissociation in both experiments and probe the resultant products. The molecular beam apparatus resolves quantum-specific product states following CHBrCl2 photodissociation in the Ã-band, leading to CHCl2 and Br photofragments. We use resonance enhanced multiphoton ionization to distinguish between the spin-orbit states of the Br products and velocity map imaging to probe energy disposal at a variety of photolysis wavelengths. We examine the role of electronic surface crossing in the dynamics and relative quantum yields for the exit channels. Additionally, we constructed and characterized a flow tube apparatus designed for measurements of unimolecular kinetics relevant to atmospheric chemistry. The work presented will cover methodology for characterizing fluid dynamics in the flow tube and the laser-induced fluorescence detection capabilities we use to probe products generated in the flow. By varying the transport properties of the flow, we aim to extract rate coefficients for unimolecular processes that compete with bimolecular chemistry in the troposphere under a variety of conditions.
