Book The Analytic Hierarchy Process in Natural Resource and Environmental Decision Making

Download or read book The Analytic Hierarchy Process in Natural Resource and Environmental Decision Making written by Daniel Schmoldt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Decision making in land management involves preferential selection among competing alternatives. Often, such choices are difficult owing to the complexity of the decision context. Because the analytic hierarchy process (AHP, developed by Thomas Saaty in the 1970s) has been successfully applied to many complex planning, resource allocation, and priority setting problems in business, energy, health, marketing, natural resources, and transportation, more applications of the AHP in natural resources and environmental sciences are appearing regularly. This realization has prompted the authors to collect some of the important works in this area and present them as a single volume for managers and scholars. Because land management contains a somewhat unique set of features not found in other AHP application areas, such as site-specific decisions, group participation and collaboration, and incomplete scientific knowledge, this text fills a void in the literature on management science and decision analysis for forest resources.

Book Plant Adaptations to Phosphate Deficiency

Download or read book Plant Adaptations to Phosphate Deficiency written by Alex Joseph Valentine and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2021-05-18 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phosphate is an essential mineral to all plants, and its availability in soils is an increasing challenge for agriculture. Phosphate is abundant in soils but its biological availability is often low due to the complexes that it forms with soil minerals and compounds. The biological availability of Phosphate is further reduced in acidic soils, which represent approximately 40% of earth’s arable agricultural lands. Agricultural systems compensate Phosphate deficiency with fertilizers coming from the mining of rock phosphate, which is estimated to exhaust within the next 50 years. For these reasons, Phosphate limitations in natural and agricultural ecosystems is going to become a global problem, and we urgently need to better understand how plants respond to Phosphate deficiency.

Book Biological Nitrogen Fixation and Beneficial Plant Microbe Interaction

Download or read book Biological Nitrogen Fixation and Beneficial Plant Microbe Interaction written by Fernando González-Andrés and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-02 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the most recent advances in all the topics with which researchers and professionals need to be familiar in order to obtain a better understanding of, and to better exploit, beneficial plant-microbe interactions. The use of microorganisms for agriculture and environmental applications is gaining importance worldwide to improve crop performance, but also for other environmental applications, such as bioremediation in chemically polluted soils. The search for an equilibrium between fundamental and applied aspects makes this book useful for professionals at various levels in the value chain of the “microbial biofertilizers”. Challenges of comercializing biofertilizers involve efficiency of the products and safety for human health and the environment, topics that have paid central attention in this book. Students, scientists and biofertilizers developers will find updated and comprehensive information about the different aspects to be considered to address a successful introduction of biofertilizers in sustainable agriculture and environmental actions.

Book Precision agriculture 23

Download or read book Precision agriculture 23 written by John V. Stafford and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-08-14 with total page 1127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Precision agriculture is a reality in agriculture and is playing a key role as the industry comes to terms with the environment, market forces, quality requirements, traceability, vehicle guidance and crop management. Sensors now in use in agriculture are generating ‘Big Data’ leading to the use of machine learning and AI - an increasing challenge for agriculture. Research continues to be necessary, and needs to be reported and disseminated to a wide audience. These edited proceedings contain peer reviewed papers presented at the 14th European Conference on Precision Agriculture, held in Bologna, Italy. The papers reflect the wide range of disciplines that impinge on precision agriculture - technology, crop science, soil science, agronomy, information technology, decision support, remote sensing, data analysis and others. The broad range of research topics reported will be a valuable resource for researchers, advisors, teachers and professionals in agriculture long after the conference has finished.

Book Managing Forest Ecosystems The Challenge of Climate Change

Download or read book Managing Forest Ecosystems The Challenge of Climate Change written by Felipe Bravo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-04-03 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climate change shaped the political agenda during the last decade with three issues as hot topics: commonly making the headlines: carbon budgets, impact and mitigation of climate change. Given the significant role that forests play in the climate system – as sources, sinks, and through carbon trading – this book update the current scientific evidences on the relationships between climate, forest resources and forest management practices around the world. By including the forest scientists’ expertise from around the world, the book presents and updates a depth analysis of the current knowledge, and a series of case studies focused on the biological and the economic impacts of climate change in forest ecosystems in Africa, Asia, Europe and North and South America. The book will form a valuable resource for researchers and advanced students dealing with sustainable forestry, climate change issues and the effects of climate change on natural resource management.
