Book Canon literatura infantil y juvenil y otras literaturas

Download or read book Canon literatura infantil y juvenil y otras literaturas written by Sociedad Española de Didáctica de la Lengua y la Literatura. Symposio Internacional and published by Univ de Castilla La Mancha. This book was released on 2003 with total page 902 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Borges and the Politics of Form

Download or read book Borges and the Politics of Form written by Jose Eduardo Gonzalez and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-05-13 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jorge Luis Borges-one of the most important Latin American writers-has also attained considerable international stature, and his work is commonly cited in a wide array of scholarship on contemporary fiction. Partly as a consequence of Borges' international identity, and partly because of a long-standing view in Borges criticism that his writing is principally concerned with abstract ideas, critics have been reluctant to address the question of politics in his writing Filling this critical gap, Gonzalez begins by rejecting the proposition that Borges withdraws from the "real," and provides a detailed analysis of the various political issues that Borges takes up in his essays and short stories. The author places particular emphasis on the turbulent questions that shaped Argentine social history during the period of Borges' output.

Book excerpt: Best shows us that, while the prom is often trivialized, most kids take the prom seriously. The prom is a space where kids work through their understanding of authority, social class, gender norms, and multicultural schooling. Proms are more than just pictures and puffed sleeves--they are a mythic part of youth culture and, for better or worse, will always be a night to remember.

Book Borges and Philosophy

Download or read book Borges and Philosophy written by William H. Bossart and published by Peter Lang Incorporated, International Academic Publishers. This book was released on 2003 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jorge Luis Borges is acknowledged as one of the great Spanish writers of the twentieth century. On the broader literary scene, he is recognized as a modern master. His fascination with philosophy - especially metaphysics - sets him apart from his contemporaries. Borges appreciated and formulated rigorous philosophical arguments, but also possessed the unique ability to present the most abstract ideas imaginatively in metaphors and symbols. Borges wandered among the great masters seeking a firm purchase that he could not find, and therefore expressed a nostalgia for metaphysics as he lost himself in his labyrinths. Borges and Philosophy traces Borges' philosophical concerns in his tales, essays, and poems and argues that despite his apparent skepticism in philosophical matters, a careful reading of Borges' texts reveals a coherent philosophical path that underlies his work.

Book excerpt: In The Monster as War Machine, European monster tradition intersects with American mass-media production and new philosophical approaches to examine topics of community, political power, alternative representations of race and gender, identity, hybridity, political agency, and collective subjectivity. In this book, cultural theory, close readings of literary texts, and interpretations of visual materials come together, covering a wide and diversified cultural territory. Some of the authors included in this study are Agamben, Badiou, Baudrillard, Deleuze, Esposito, Foucault, Freud, Haraway, Hardt, Kristeva, Marx, Negri, and Zizek, whose works illuminate the disruptive and at times emancipatory role of monstrosity as a representation of excess, instinct, evil, truth, and rebelliousness. This book is an important resource for those studying film, contemporary literature, and popular culture. This book is in the Cambria Latin American Literatures and Cultures Series headed by Román de la Campa, the Edwin B. and Lenore R. Williams Professor of Romance Languages at the University of Pennsylvania.

Book Reading Comics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Mila Bongco
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2014-04-04
  • ISBN : 1317776321
  • Pages : 258 pages

Download or read book Reading Comics written by Mila Bongco and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-04-04 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study explores how the definition of the medium, as well as its language, readership, genre conventions, and marketing and distribution strategies, have kept comic books within the realm of popular culture. Since comics have been studied mostly in relation to mass media and its influence on society, there is a void in the analysis of the critical issues related to comics as a distinct genre and art form. By focusing on comics as narratives and investigating their formal and structural aspects, as well as the unique reading process they demand, this study presents a unique contribution to the current literature on comics, and helps clarify concepts and definitions useful in studying the medium.
