Book Coleoptera Beetles Morphology and Systematics

Download or read book Coleoptera Beetles Morphology and Systematics written by Rolf G. Beutel and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2016-03-21 with total page 968 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a revised edition of the first of three volumes in the Handbook of Zoology series which treats the systematics and biology of Coleoptera. With over 380,000 described species, Coleoptera are by far the most species-rich order of insects and the largest group of animals of comparable geological age. Moreover, numerous species are tremendously important economically. The beetle volumes meet the demand of modern biologists seeking to answer questions about Coleoptera phylogeny, evolution, and ecology. This first Coleoptera volume covers the suborders Archostemata, Myxophaga and Adephaga, and the basal series of Polyphaga, with information on world distribution, biology, morphology of all life stages, phylogeny and comments on taxonomy.

Book A Revision of the North American Species of Buprestid Beetles Belonging to the Genus Agrilus

Download or read book A Revision of the North American Species of Buprestid Beetles Belonging to the Genus Agrilus written by Warren Samuel Fisher and published by . This book was released on 1928 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present paper is the result of several years' study of the genus Agrilus, and comprises all of the species found in the mainland of American north of Mexico. The task of revising the genus was undertaken because the group is an important one economically, and at the same time has been badly confused. Owing to the extreme variability of the species, erroneous identifications have been many, and the published distribution and host records are in a considerable part incorrect. Fortunately the collection of the United States National Museum, upon which this work is largely based, is rich in reared series of many of the species. On hundred and seventeen species and 8 subspecies or varieties are treated in this paper, of which 27 species and 2 subspecies are described as new.

Book Australian Beetles Volume 2

Download or read book Australian Beetles Volume 2 written by Adam Slipinski and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2019-11-01 with total page 1340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This three-volume series represents a comprehensive treatment of the beetles of Australia, a relatively under-studied fauna that includes many unusual and unique lineages found nowhere else on Earth. Volume 2 contains 36 chapters, providing critical information and identification keys to the genera of the Australian beetle families included in suborders Archostemata, Myxophaga, Adephaga and several groups of Polyphaga (Scirtoidea, Hydrophiloidea, Scarabaeoidea, Buprestoidea and Tenebrionidae). Each chapter is richly illustrated in black and white drawings and photographs. The book also includes colour habitus figures for about 1000 Australian beetle genera and subgenera belonging to the families treated in this volume. This volume is a truly international collaborative effort, as the chapters have been written by 23 contributors from Australia, China, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Poland and USA.

Download or read book A A World Catalogue and Bibliography of the Jewel Beetles written by C. L. Bellamy and published by Pensoft Pub. This book was released on 2008 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first complete world catalogue of the jewel beetles, the eighth largest beetle family Buprestidae and its small North American sister-group Schizopodidae, since Jan Obenberger's six fascicle (1926-1937) contribution to the Horn & Schenkling Coleopterorum Catalogus. Published in five volumes (3125 pages in total), this catalogue presents a full taxonomic history for all taxa, including fossils, along with distribution and type repository data. The catalogue follows the evolving modern classification which, for Buprestidae, employs 6 subfamilies, 47 tribes, 39 non-nominate subtribes, 513 genera and more than 14700 valid species. In addition, the first large bibliography on the subject concludes the catalogue with more than 8000 citations. The present volume 3 includes the conclusion of Buprestinae (including the large genera Anthaxia and Chrysobothris) and the majority of the non-Agrilus Agrilinae.
