Book excerpt: Richard Belzer and David Wayne are back to set the record straight after Dead Wrong; this time they’re going to uncover the truth about the many witness deaths tied to the JFK assassination. For decades, government pundits have dismissed these “coincidental” deaths, even regarding them as “myths” as “urban legends.” Like most people, Richard and David were initially unsure about what to make of these ‘coincidences’. After all, events don’t “consult the odds” prior to happening; they simply happen. Then someone comes along later and figures out what the odds of it happening were. Some of the deaths seemed purely coincidental; heart attacks, hunting accidents. Others clearly seemed noteworthy; witnesses who did seem to know something and did seem to die mysteriously. Hit List is a fair examination of the evidence of each case, leading to (necessarily) different conclusions. The findings were absolutely staggering; as some cases were clearly linked to a “clean-up operation” after the murder of President Kennedy, while others were the result of ‘other forces’. The impeccable research and writing of Richard Belzer and David Wayne show that if the government is trying to hide anything, they’re the duo who will uncover it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Significant interest has always existed about the origin of Classic Greek culture, but despite the long-standing attention, scholars continue to disagree on where this amazing civilization got its start. The Mycenaeans were the earliest Greek-speaking people on the mainland, but the country entered a Dark Age following the end of the Trojan War, and in the Archaic Age which followed, the fundamentals of Greek political and literary thought suddenly emerged, without a clear source of derivation. Historians have sometimes given credit to the Egyptians, Phoenicians, or other Eastern civilizations for this evolution, but no serious consideration has been given to the ancient Hebrews, despite the fact that the Exodus from Egypt took place during the Late Bronze Age, when Mycenae was at its peak of influence in the Mediterranean Basin. In Was Achilles a Jew? Hebraic Origins to Greek Civilization, Dr. Larry Milner argues that a group of Hebrews devoted to the traditions of the patriarchs left the Exodus following the parricidal reprisals instituted by Moses during the modification of Judaism into a monotheistic faith, and migrated to Mycenae, where they became immersed into Mycenaean culture, taking part in the Trojan War. His analysis provides the most persuasive argument to date about where the Eastern influence in Greece was generated.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How political paranoia shaped cinema for a decade: “One of the most readable and damning accounts of that period.” —The Guardian This is the story of how the politicians took Tinseltown to task in the late 1940s and 1950s. As the Cold War with the Soviet Union began in earnest, the search for “Reds under the bed,” later led by Senator Joseph McCarthy, was felt most keenly in Hollywood, where the investigations were carried out under the full glare of the spotlights. Painstakingly researched and drawing on numerous exclusive interviews, this book charts the generation of actors who found their livelihood ruined by being blacklisted and the writers forced to hire “fronts” to continue to work; it reveals how Arthur Miller was offered the chance to have his hearing dropped in return for a photo opportunity with Marilyn Monroe; and how Kirk Douglas’s naming of Dalton Trumbo as the writer of Spartacus signaled the end of this extraordinary era. Witch Hunt in Hollywood is the definitive account of how political paranoia shaped cinema for a decade.

Book Rebel Leadership

Download or read book Rebel Leadership written by Larry Robertson and published by Post Hill Press. This book was released on 2021-06-01 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There’s a growing pattern of not just individual leaders, but entire cultures rebelling against old and ineffectual ways that have long defined what it means to lead. At the heart of rebel leadership is the emergence of five patterns seen in leading organizations across sectors. Together, these patterns outline a framework for how to successfully meet this turbulent new century and thrive. Rebel Leadership will not only reveal these patterns, but will teach the reader how to tap into the power of this framework and make it their own. More precisely, Rebel Leadership will teach readers: • What lies at the heart of success, no matter how much the environmental conditions might change • How leadership is counterintuitively at its most powerful when it moves across individuals and cultures • That, inevitably, there is only one truly sustainable competitive advantage in uncertain times • Where leaders can find the best source for lowering risk in a changing world • Why a long-term view has less to do with the long-term and far more to do with this moment than you’d ever imagine “There are few skills as important as leadership—a skill we must constantly relearn, every one of us, now more than ever. This book is your guide and compass.” Kevin Guskiewicz, Chancellor, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill “There is no more timely or more important book for those who lead in these uncertain times. Uncertainty is our new normal, or as Robertson writes, our new abnormal—leaders either accept it or they perish. This brilliant, forward-thinking book, its vivid examples, and deep insights, will help you to not only survive uncertainty, but to thrive in it.” Tom Koulopoulos, author, Revealing the Invisible and The Gen Z Effect “We live in times of change and rapid adjustment. Many aspects of how we do things will require sensible and well-thought-through revisions. Our approach to leadership must change as well. The question is how. Larry Robertson’s newest book gives that question the needed time and attention it deserves. The result is at once insightful, revealing, and instructive. The lessons are relatable and powerful. The stories make you feel a part of them. And when you finish, you don’t just feel prepared to lead in a new way, you realize he’s already launched you on your journey. Read this book.” Milena Z. Fisher, Ph.D., President, Co-Founder, The Creativity Post “Bob Marley was a Soul Rebel. Ruth Ginsburg was a Gender Rebel. In his new, must-read, book, Larry Robertson challenges us all to embrace ‘Rebel Leadership.’ In the post-Covid era, we’ll need to run toward new ideas about how to create lasting change, and as usual, Larry charts a course we can follow with daring and audacity.” Robert Egger, Founding Board Member, World Central Kitchen “Rebel Leadership offers a refreshing approach to leading in an environment where we can no longer wait to ride out the waves of uncertainty. With a blend of surprising insights, actionable ideas, and vivid storytelling, it’s a must-read for leaders looking for new ways to navigate an ever-changing business landscape.” Teri Evans, former Columnist Desk Editor, Inc. Magazine “Whatever role you fill, whatever game you play, to be at your best, you’ve got to take a bigger view. Seeing beyond your own position, but also beyond the game itself, is so important—never more so than today. When that’s your habit, you see more options, make better decisions, and set yourself up to lead with excellence—no matter what role you play. In Rebel Leadership, Larry Robertson takes the meaning of all this to a whole new level. You’ll come away inspired and wiser for the read. It’s a book worthy of your time and attention, no matter what game you play.” Terry Malone, Football Coach, New Orleans Saints, Michigan Wolverines, Bowling Green Falcons “Leadership isn’t a title needing to be filled. More than ever, it is a true responsibility, both individual and collective. The ripple effects of the choices we make matter as never before. Larry Robertson’s Rebel Leadership reflects this understanding, and opens our minds up to a new and necessary way to approach leadership. He sheds important light on why some organizations are thriving in this new and deeply unpredictable landscape, and offers important and rarified insights into the true sources of organizational power and adaptability. The book will change your view, but more importantly, it will increase your return on leadership.” Janeen Gelbart, CEO, Co-founder, Indiggo/Return on Leadership® “As change and uncertainty accelerate, today’s organizations risk being engulfed by chaos or denying reality. Rebel Leadership gives us the framework to actively engage and build a more adaptable and agile culture in which to thrive. With page-turning prose and compelling stories and examples, Rebel Leadership gives you a new, better, and more impactful view of leadership.” Tripp Eldredge, President, CEO, DMR/Interactive

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Occasionally, Mother Earth realizes what a mess we have made of the planet. When this happens, there are mass extinction events that allow evolution to start over. Seventy-seven thousand years ago, a supervolcano in Sumatra, Indonesia, called Toba erupted. It is one of the earth’s largest known explosive eruptions. This eruption caused a genetic bottleneck, nearly ending all human life on earth. The survivors should have been a small band of Druids and a nonhuman species called the Urus. According to Druid legends, a group called the Protectors gathered about five hundred humans. They allowed them to survive in a remote corner of Africa. The survivors of the Toba eruption caused an environmental catastrophe on this planet. This is not their story. This is the story of what happened to the Urus and the small band of Druids. It contains glimpses of the utopia this planet should have become.

Book No Ordinary Joes

    Book Details:
  • Author : Larry Colton
  • Publisher : Crown
  • Release : 2010-10-05
  • ISBN : 0307717240
  • Pages : 426 pages

Download or read book No Ordinary Joes written by Larry Colton and published by Crown. This book was released on 2010-10-05 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On April 23, 1943, the seventy-man crew of the USS Grenadier scrambled to save their submarine—and themselves—after a Japanese aerial torpedo sent it crashing to the ocean floor. Miraculously, the men were able to bring the sub back to the surface, only to be captured by the Japanese. No Ordinary Joes tells the harrowing story of four of the Grenadier’s crew: Bob Palmer of Medford, Oregon; Chuck Vervalin of Dundee, New York; Tim McCoy of Dallas, Texas; and Gordy Cox of Yakima, Washington. All were enlistees from families that struggled through the Great Depression. The lure of service and duty to country were not their primary motivations—they were more compelled by the promise of a job that provided “three hots and a cot” and a steady paycheck. On the day they were captured, all four were still teenagers. Together, the men faced unimaginable brutality at the hands of their captors in a prisoner of war camp. With no training in how to respond in the face of relentless interrogations and with less than a cup of rice per day for sustenance, each man created his own strategy for survival. When the liberation finally came, all four anticipated a triumphant homecoming to waiting families, loved ones, and wives, but instead were forced to find a new kind of strength as they struggled to resume their lives in a world that had given them up for dead, and with the aftershocks of an experience that haunted and colored the rest of their days. Author Larry Colton brings the lives of these four “ordinary” heroes into brilliant focus. Theirs is a story of tragedy and courage, romance and war, loss and endurance, failure and redemption. With a scope both panoramic and disarmingly intimate, No Ordinary Joes is a powerful look at the atrocities of war, the reality of its aftermath, and the restorative power of love.
