Book Surface Wave Parametric Processors and Long Delay Lines

Download or read book Surface Wave Parametric Processors and Long Delay Lines written by H. J. Shaw and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design procedures for wrap-around, helical SAW delay lines of large time delay together with large bandwidth are developed. The frequency dependence of the various loss mechanisms, i.e., crystal loss, air loading loss, and diffraction loss, are studied. This includes an analytical treatment of diffraction loss in unguided SAW delay lines. Loss balancing procedures are developed, for designing interdigital transducers to equalize the frequency tilt due to frequency dependence of the loss factors and produce a level passband, and procedures for removing the residual passband curvature are developed. These are applied to graded, phase weighted interdigital transducers. Summaries are given of time delay and bandwidth values available in delay lines on BGO, for typical values of delay line parameters and dynamic range. Delay line designs are presented for time delays of 0.1, 0.5, and 1 millisecond time delay. Experimental delay lines for these time delay values are described, one having time delay of .91 milliseconds and bandwidth of 65 MHz, for a time bandwidth product of 60,000, with center frequency of 83 MHz. Book excerpt: Surface Acoustic Wave Devices and Their Signal Processing Applications is a textbook that combines experiment and theory in assessing the signal processing applications of surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices. The operating principles of SAW devices are described from a circuit design viewpoint. This book is comprised of 18 chapters and begins with a historical background on surface acoustic waves and a discussion on the merits of SAW devices as well as their applications. The next chapter introduces the reader to the basics of acoustic waves and piezoelectricity, together with the effect of acoustic bulk waves on the performance of SAW filters. The principles of linear phase SAW filter design and equivalent circuit models for a SAW filter are then described. The remaining chapters focus on trade-offs in linear phase SAW filter design; compensation for second-order effects; harmonic SAW delay lines for gigahertz frequencies; and coding techniques using linear SAW transducers. The final chapter highlights Some other significant alternative design techniques and applications for SAW devices. This monograph will be suitable for engineering or physics students as well as engineers, scientists, and technical staff in industry who seek further information on SAW-based circuits, systems, and applications.

Book Advances in Surface Acoustic Wave Technology Systems and Applications

Download or read book Advances in Surface Acoustic Wave Technology Systems and Applications written by Clemens C. W. Ruppel and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices are recognized for their versatility and efficiency in controlling and processing electrical signals. This has resulted in a multitude of device concepts for a wide range of signal processing functions, such as delay lines, filters, resonators, pulse compressors, convolvers, and many more. As SAW technology has found its way into mass market products such as TV receivers, pagers, keyless entry systems and cellular phones, the production volume has risen to millions of devices produced every day. At the other end of the scale, there are specialized high performance signal processing SAW devices for satellite communication and military applications, such as radar and electronic warfare. This volume, together with Volume 2, presents an overview of recent advances in SAW technology, systems and applications by some of the foremost researchers in this exciting field.

Book Rayleigh Wave Theory and Application

Download or read book Rayleigh Wave Theory and Application written by Eric A. Ash and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no respect for mere age in Science or Technology. Yet the cen tenary of the discovery, by the third Lord Rayleigh, that elastic waves can be guided by a surface, is memorable for the contradictions which it encompasses: Rayleigh's assessment of his classic 1885 paper as a rather minor mathematical development with a potential value only in seismology on the one hand; on the other the rediscovery of the subject in a totally that of electronic signal processing - which has led to its different fiel- explosive growth over the last twenty years. The new surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices have proved to be per electronic components. Today almost all television receivers con vasive tain one or more SAW filters, sophisticated radars depend on SAW signal processing, and SAW devices have been incorporated in ultra-high perfor mance opto-electronic systems. With the objective of surveying these developments and attempting to predict those that can be foreseen, as well as marking the centenary of Lord Rayleigh's discovery, The Rank Prize Funds' Committee for Opto Electronics organised a symposium in London, in July 1985. It was held in the Royal Institution, London, where Rayleigh himself once worked and often lectured. The present volume is the tangible outcome of the symposium, In which international experts survey.ed their various fields, and presented the most exciting recent developments.
