Book Renewable Energy Systems

Download or read book Renewable Energy Systems written by Martin Kaltschmitt and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1898 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humanity is facing a steadily diminishing supply of fossil fuels, causing researchers, policy makers, and the population as a whole to turn increasingly to alternative and especially renewable sources of energy to make up this deficit. Gathering over 80 peer-reviewed entries from the Encyclopedia of Sustainability Science and Technologies, Renewable Energy Systems provides an authoritative introduction to a wide variety of renewable energy sources. State-of-the-art coverage includes geothermal power stations, ocean energy, renewable energy from biomass, waste to energy, and wind power. This comprehensive, two-volume work provides an excellent introduction for those entering these fields, as well as new insights for advanced researchers, industry experts, and decision makers.

Book DOE project on Geothermal Reservoir Engineering Computer Code Comparison and Validation

Download or read book DOE project on Geothermal Reservoir Engineering Computer Code Comparison and Validation written by and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three of the four simulators used in computing a difficult three-dimensional problem show excellent quantitative agreement. This demonstrates that numerical simulators are capable of producing accurate results for field-wide reservoir depletion problems, involving phase transitions, gravitationally induced steam/water counterflow, and recharge.

Book Description of the Three dimensional Two phase Simulator Shaft78 for Use in Geothermal Reservoir Studies

Download or read book Description of the Three dimensional Two phase Simulator Shaft78 for Use in Geothermal Reservoir Studies written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The algorithm of SHAFT78 is based on mass and energy-balance equations for two-phase flow in a porous medium. The basic differential equations are converted into integrated finite-difference form. This allows regular and irregular reservoir shapes to be handled with the same ease. The equations are solved semi-implicitly for discrete time steps. The present version of SHAFT78 treats the coupling between mass and energy flow in a noniterative way. Special provisions are made to compute phase transitions with high accuracy. The program was verified by computing a number of sample problems that previously had been investigated by other authors. Model studies reveal that two-phase geothermal reservoirs are capable of a great variety of pressure responses upon production. It is shown that the standard technique of estimating reserves by extrapolating a plot of p/Z vs cumulative production is not applicable to two-phase geothermal reservoirs. A bulk model (lumped parameters) was developed for a two-phase reservoir that admits an analytical solution for pressure decline upon production. From this it is concluded that in many cases pressure will be a linear function of cumulative production, with the slope allowing an estimate of total reservoir volume. Reserve assessment requires knowledge of average porosity and vapor saturation, which cannot be obtained from pressure decline curves.
