Book A Writer s Diary Volume 2

Download or read book A Writer s Diary Volume 2 written by Fyodor Dostoevsky and published by Northwestern University Press. This book was released on 1997-07-20 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second volume of the complete collection of writings that has been called Dostoevsky's boldest experiment with literary form; it is a uniquely encyclopedic forum of fictional and nonfictional genres. The Diary's radical format was matched by the extreme range of its contents. In a single frame it incorporated an astonishing variety of material: short stories; humorous sketches; reports on sensational crimes; historical predictions; portraits of famous people; autobiographical pieces; and plans for stories, some of which were never written while others appeared in the Diary itself.

It emphasizes the legal aspects of NAFTA & doing business in the Americas. Coverage also includes the expansion & growth of NAFTA, & the overall impact (business, financial, economic, legal) upon the current three signatories & upon other interested countries in Latin America & elsewhere in the world. The journal is divided into three main sections: (I) Articles; (II) Implementation, covering the way that the United States, Canada, & Mexico are implementing NAFTA; & (III) Beyond NAFTA, which considers the developments occurring elsewhere in Latin & Central America, the Caribbean, & Europe. Topics of particular concern to this journal include free trade, direct investment, licensing, finance, taxation, litigation & dispute resolution, & organizational aspects of NAFTA. Besides the technical, legal pieces, the journal includes various policy oriented articles, economic pieces, & business strategy articles. NAFTA: Law & Business Review of the Americas achieves a unique balance in its coverage between practical & policy implications of NAFTA, covering both matters of immediate interest as well as those relating to reform of legal, business, economic, social, & political structures in the Western world. This approach makes it a valuable resource for both practitioners & academics in the field.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the Soviet period the USSR conducted diplomatic relations with incumbent regimes while simultaneously cultivating and manipulating communist movements in those same countries. The Chinese case offers a particularly interesting example of this dual policy, for when the Chinese Communists came to power in 1949, their discovery of the nature of Moscow's imperial designs on Chinese territory sowed distrust between the two revolutionary powers and paved the way to the Sino-Soviet split.Drawing on newly available documents from archives in China, Taiwan, Russia, and Japan, this study examines secret agreements signed by Moscow and the Peking government in 1924 and confirmed by a Soviet-Japanese convention in 1925. These agreements essentially allowed the Bolsheviks to reclaim most of tsarist Russia's concessions and privileges in China, including not only Imperial properties but also Outer Mongolia, the Chinese Eastern Railway, the Boxer Indemnity, and the right of extraterritoriality. Each of these topics is analyzed in this volume, and translations of the secret protocols themselves are included in a documentary appendix. Additional chapters discuss Sino-Soviet diplomacy and the parallel history of Soviet relations with the Chinese Communist Party as well as the origins and purpose of the United Front policy.

Book The Position of the German Language in the World

Download or read book The Position of the German Language in the World written by Ulrich Ammon and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-08-08 with total page 684 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Position of the German Language in the World focuses on the global position of German and the factors which work towards sustaining its use and utility for international communication. From the perspective of the global language constellation, the detailed data analysis of this substantial research project depicts German as an example of a second-rank language. The book also provides a model for analysis and description of international languages other than English. It offers a framework for strengthening the position of languages such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Portuguese, Spanish and others and for countering exaggerated claims about the global monopoly position of English. This comprehensive handbook of the state of the German language in the world was originally published in 2015 by Walter de Gruyter in German and has been critically acclaimed. Suitable for scholars and researchers of the German language, the handbook shows in detail how intricately and thoroughly German and other second-rank languages are tied up with a great number of societies and how these statistics support or weaken the languages’ functions and maintenance.
