Book excerpt: The understanding of landscape in the German-speaking area has some similarities with the discussions of the topic in other European languages and scientific communities, but there are some specifics. These specifics can be found both in the common sense understanding of landscape and in the history of scientific conceptualization. Special features of the common sense understanding lie on the one hand in the medieval roots, a strong romantic charge and the strong connection between home and landscape. With regard to the scientific examination of landscape, there are specific fractions and discontinuities in the German-speaking world. Book Die Landschaft interpretieren Interdisziplin re Ans tze

Download or read book Die Landschaft interpretieren Interdisziplin re Ans tze written by Werner Kreisel and published by Universitätsverlag Göttingen. This book was released on 2021 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no generally valid, recognised definition of what landscape actually is. On the basis of its relatedness to the environment, to aesthetics, territory, society, politics, economics, geography, planning, ethnology and philosophy, the concept of landscape is considered to be a "composite" notion shaped by a thousand years of Central European ideas and of literary and art history. In other words, the very term "landscape" is ambiguous and it is used in different ways both in the scholarly world and everyday speech. The aim of this volume is to present various possible approaches to the phenomenon of "landscape". Far from laying any claim to be exhaustive or comprehensive we have simply tried to do justice to the overarching interdisciplinary approach of the Zentrum für Landschaftsinterpretation und Tourismus (ZELT: Centre for Landscape Interpretation and Tourism) by singling out and addressing individual instances of this fascinating multifaceted phenomenon.

Book Modern Approaches to the Visualization of Landscapes

Download or read book Modern Approaches to the Visualization of Landscapes written by Dennis Edler and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-31 with total page 553 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume deals with the effects of digitization on spatial and especially landscape construction processes and their visualization. A focus lies on the generation mechanisms of 'landscapes' with digital tools of cartography and geomatics, including possibilities to model and visualize non-visual stimuli, but also spatial-temporal changes of physical space. Another focus is on how virtual spaces have already become part of the social and individual construction of landscape. Potentials of combining modern media of spatial visualization and (constructivist) landscape research are discussed.

Download or read book Gr ne Infrastruktur Green Infrastructure written by Bund Deutscher Landschaftsarchitekten and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2015-08-31 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The more intensively we exploit the urban and rural landscape, the greater the demands we place on our environment and what it can provide. Demographic change, shrinking cities, urban expansion, climate change and the transition to renewable energy sources are confronting us with challenges of ever greater magnitude. Solar fields and bio-energy crops are changing the face of the landscape and new traffic and energy infrastructure criss-crosses the countryside. Meanwhile, vast efforts are being made to adapt existing infrastructure to meet changing demands. In the process, it has once again become clear that we must consider our use of natural resources not just from a local perspective but within a broader context. Green infrastructure strategies can take quite different forms, ranging from floodwater protection measures to the integration of traffic and energy systems and the development of urban green. The goal for society is to improve the diversity and resilience of our environment and to minimize the effects of climate change. In essays, interviews and profiles of the best realized projects from the past few years, Green Infrastructure examines the challenges and tasks facing contemporary landscape architecture and what it can achieve to address them. This book is published on the occasion of the awarding of the German Landscape Architecture Prize 2015.
