Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soon after starting work on the development of a methodology for national trans portation planning in Venezuela, we realized the importance of an integrated management process for such an effort. We also realized the absence in the literature of specific guidelines on how to manage and conduct a transportation planning effort. The literature on the subject of national transportation planning is predominantly theoretical and technical in nature. To a large extent, the absence of literature on management and broad-based methodological approaches reflects the limited and ad hoc nature of the experience in national transportation planning. This book is an attempt to fill that gap. The main objective of the book is to show one way by which a methodology for national transportation planning can be integrated into a process management framework. It reports on the experience that the authors had in the Venezuelan case, as well as in earlier national planning efforts. The book is not intended as a theoretical discussion of planning. Instead, it adopts a particular theoretical stand and proceeds on that basis to develop a program for applying a specific methodology. The intention is to leave as much of the details and elaborations of that methodology to the user. This is motivated by two considerations. The first is a pragmatic attempt to limit the scope of the book.

Download or read book The Economy of Indonesia written by Bruce Glassburner and published by Equinox Publishing. This book was released on 2007 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together thirteen of the most significant essays on the Indonesian economy. Included are articles by twelve leading authorities on economic policies, agriculture, population and manpower, industry, money, and finance. Many of these widely scattered articles are relatively inaccessible in their original form, and two have not been published previously. While these articles give the historical record of economic performance and policy since Indonesia achieved independence in 1949, they also convey the sectoral and institutional structure of the economic system. An extensive introduction and brief headnotes for each section have been provided by the editor. BRUCE GLASSBURNER, formerly Professor of Economics at the University of California, Davis, received his BS and MS degrees from Iowa State College and his PhD degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He was Chairman, Department of Economics, University of California, Davis for eight years. In 1968-1970, he served as Chairman, Field Staff, University of California Indonesia Project, and was Associate Director, University of California Study Center, Hong Kong, in 1969-1971. He is the author of many published articles in the area of economic development.
Download or read book The Report Indonesia 2018 written by Oliver Cornock and published by Oxford Business Group. This book was released on 2018 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2018 the Indonesian economy recorded a growth rate of 5.2%, the highest in five years. This was in spite of a slump in the rupiah and a trade imbalance, and took place against a backdrop of rising US interest rates and deteriorating trade relations between the world’s two biggest economies. The country’s emphasis on industrialisation and infrastructure development is laying the foundations for continued economic growth. Moreover, the archipelago’s growing middle class population, geographical position and human capital development agenda, alongside progress in free-trade agreements, make it a strong contender on the global economic stage. The country holds considerable potential for developing entrepreneurial and creative prowess, already being home to four unicorn startups. Investors have continued to look beyond traditional destinations, with emerging cities like Surabaya and Palembang showing strong possibilities for economic growth. Although the outcome of the April 2019 national election will determine the course of further infrastructure development and tax reforms, the future looks promising, with predictions of continued growth accompanied by stable inflation.
Download or read book Infrastructure Investment in Indonesia A Focus on Ports written by Colin Duffield and published by Open Book Publishers. This book was released on 2019-11-10 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Infrastructure Investment in Indonesia: A Focus on Ports presents an important and original collation of current material investigating the efficient facilitation of major infrastructure projects in Indonesia and Australia, with an emphasis on infrastructure investment and a focus on port planning and development. This interdisciplinary collection—spanning the disciplines of engineering, law and planning—draws helpfully on a range of practical and theoretical perspectives. It is the collaborative effort of leading experts in the fields of infrastructure project initiation and financing, and is based on international research conducted by the University of Melbourne, Universitas Indonesia and Universitas Gadjah Mada. The volume opens with a macroscopic perspective, outlining the broader economic situations confronting Indonesia and Australia, before adopting a more microscopic perspective to closely examine the issues surrounding major infrastructure investment in both countries. Detailed case studies are provided, key challenges are identified, and evidence-based solutions are offered. These solutions respond to such topical issues as how to overcome delays in infrastructure project initiation; how to enhance project decision-making for the selection and evaluation of projects; how to improve overall efficiency in the arrangement of project finance and governance; and how to increase the return provided by investment in infrastructure. Special focus is given to proposed improvements to the portal cities of Indonesia in the areas of major infrastructure project governance, policies, engagement, operation and processes. By rigorously investigating the economic, transport, finance and policy aspects of infrastructure investment, this book will be a valuable resource for policy makers and government officials in Indonesia and Australia, infrastructure investment organisations, and companies involved in exporting services between Indonesia and Australia. This book will also be of interest to researchers and students of infrastructure planning and financing, setting a solid foundation for subsequent investigations of financing options for large-scale infrastructure developments.

Download or read book International Perspectives on the Belt and Road Initiative written by Sidh Sintusingha and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-05-31 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Perspectives on the Belt and Road Initiative investigates the most significant global‐scale international trade expansion and capital investment programme since the Second World War. This book focusses on the multi-national perspectives of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in order to interrogate the Chinese government’s representation of it as a symbol of "peace, cooperation, development and mutual benefit." With specific focus on the interrelationship between geopolitics, infrastructure investments and urban regional development, the book reflects on 12 countries’ experiences in depth, including those of Iran, Pakistan, Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan and Ethiopia, specificly to their economic development levels, political systems, power dynamics and socio-environmental issues. The book clarifies and contributes new knowledge on the nature of BRI concerning its relationship to globalism, neo-colonialism, the notion of developed vs developing countries and their institutions and macro-micro benefits and impacts. In doing so, the book offers a balanced account of the antagonistic geo-political narrative of socio-political conflict and the collaborative framework of real socio-economic flows and development. The book will appeal to academics, researchers and policy-makers with an interest in the BRI and its impacts on politico-economic development and urban, regional and spatial systems in the Indo-Pacific and beyond.
Download or read book Services Liberalization in ASEAN written by Tham Siew Yean and published by ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute. This book was released on 2017-11-14 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The services sector plays an important role in ASEAN economies as it accounts for about half of the region’s GDP and more than 45 per cent of its total employment. ASEAN aspires to deepen integration in the services sector in order to enhance the sector’s contribution to economic development and growth in each country. Despite this, services liberalization has progressed slowly compared to goods liberalization both at the multilateral and the regional levels. Different regulatory mechanisms across countries have contributed to the slow pace of liberalization.
