Book Land of the Cold Sky Book 2

Download or read book Land of the Cold Sky Book 2 written by Bruce Dunavin and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-07-30 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The emotional and deeply spiritual conclusion to Book 1. This is an epic Christian love story to rival that of Romeo and Juliet. A mountain man (Shane McQuaid) found the love of his life (Becky) in a Ute village and with the grace and blessing of God, marries her. This second book begins where book 1 left off as they leave the Indian village that has been Beckys home for many years. The newlyweds set out on a dangerous journey to a cabin on the slopes of Buffalo Peaks. Shane hasnt seen his folks for over two years and they think he is dead. He wants to stop by the ranch and see them on the way to Buffalo Peaks. The threat continues as evil men seek to own the horse Shane rides and will do anything to possess this magical mare. They succeed in kidnapping Becky and are on their way to Denver where they will turn her over to the head of The Syndicate, Lou Blonger. He will trade her for the horse or sell her into slavery; whichever will make him the most money. He would also kill Shane, take the horse and keep Becky if that is an option. He is the personification of evil. The setting for this magnificent story is central Colorado in the latter half of the 1800s before law and order was established and before the railroads brought politicians, bankers, businessmen, lawyers and hoards of people that will eventually be the beginning of the end of the American West. Along the way there are other exciting tributaries to the main plot such as an unimaginable flash flood, tales of survival, death, western justice, supernatural healing, humor, hot springs, other mountain men, a rancher who has no use for politicians or lawyers, fur trappers, bandits, preachers, a dog with near human qualities, cruelty, loneliness, unmitigated happiness and more. There is even an improbable chess game. This book was written by a devout Christian for other Christian believers but will be an unforgettable read for anyone who likes to see good triumph over evil. This book will bring tears to your eyes; it will make your heart sing! This love story is painted against the backdrop of the awesome grandeur that is the Rocky Mountains. The author describes in great detail the feeling of standing on top of a 14,000-foot mountain to look down on eagles in flight. There is so much more to this book than can be described on one page. If you want a book you will cherish and be proud to give to a friend; pick this one up and read it. You will enjoy reading it more than once. It would make a movie the likes of which only comes along once in a lifetime.

There are no tides more treacherous than those of the heart. —Teek saying The great city of Tova is shattered. For the Clan of Matriarchs of Tova, tense alliances form as far-flung enemies gather and the war in the heavens is reflected upon the earth. On this campaign, Arthur and his young warrior army destroy the Saxons in battle after battle, a ruthless campaign of fire and superior tactics that pushes the Clan Bear to their limits, pushing the Fox into days of battle-madness and wild anguish as he fights and kills in a relentless need to be Arthur's greatest warrior and champion. And yet it is Medraut, Arthur's cousin, who is pushed too hard and too far, as now, traitors sworn to Medraut's side begin to arise from within the ranks of Arthur's army--traitors too small to threaten Arthur's power now. Still unassailable in his rise, the legend of Arthur as an invincible warrior has already begun, and he breaks the Saxons, and returns home victorious; but not without payment to be had. In the aftermath of battle, it is time for the Bear to return to his land of birth, to Siluria, and there seek out the last living souls of his mother's people; those who survive from their battles against Arthur's father, Uthyr Pendragon. Yet going home causes even more troubles for both Arthur and Bedwyr to overcome, troubles that charge the two young warriors into the sinister hearts of traitors, whose rebellion forces the Fox and the Bear to become more than warriors, but killers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dino A. Brugioni, author of the best-selling account of the Cuban Missile crisis, Eyeball to Eyeball, draws on his long CIA career as one of the world's premier experts on aerial reconnaissance to provide the inside story of President Dwight D. Eisenhower's efforts to use spy planes and satellites to gather intelligence. He reveals Eisenhower to be a hands-on president who, contrary to popular belief, took an active role in assuring that the latest technology was used to gather aerial intelligence. This previously untold story of the secret Cold War program makes full use of the author's firsthand knowledge of the program and of information he gained from interviews with important participants. As a founder and senior officer of the CIA's National Photographic Interpretation Center, Brugioni was a key player in keeping Eisenhower informed of developments, and he sheds new light on the president's contributions toward building an effective and technologically advanced intelligence organization. The book provides details of the president's backing of the U-2's development and its use to dispel the bomber gap and to provide data on Soviet missile and nuclear efforts and to deal with crises in the Suez, Lebanon, Chinese Off Shore Islands, Tibet, Indonesia, East Germany, and elsewhere. Brugioni offers new information about Eisenhower's order of U-2 flights over Malta, Cyprus, Toulon, and Israel and subsequent warnings to the British, French, and Israelis that the U.S. would not support an invasion of Egypt. He notes that the president also backed the development of the CORONA photographic satellite, which eventually proved the missile gap with the Soviet Union didn't exist, and a variety of other satellite systems that detected and monitored problems around the world. The unsung reconnaissance roles played by Jimmy Doolittle and Edwin Land are also highlighted in this revealing study of Cold War espionage.
