Download or read book Materials for Subsurface Land Drainage Systems written by L. C. P. M. Stuyt and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reliable subsurface drainage systems for groundwater table and salinity control are needed to maintain or enhance the productivity of irrigated lands and to contribute to the rural development of lowlands in the humid tropic. This publication presents guidelines to assess the need for envelopes and for the selection of appropriate materials (i.e. pipes and envelopes) for the proper and lasting performance of subsurface drainage systems. In addition, it also contains guidelines for adequate installation and maintenance of drainage materials as well as the required specifications and standards of such materials, which may be used in tender documents for implementation of subsurface drainage works. Practical guidelines for the implementation of laboratory and field investigations to evaluate the performance of drainage materials have also been included.--Publisher's description.

Download or read book Agricultural Land Improvement Amelioration and Reclamation Volume I written by Boris Stepanovich Maslov and published by EOLSS Publications. This book was released on 2009-09-23 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agricultural Land Improvement: Amelioration and Reclamation theme is a component of Encyclopedia of Food and Agricultural Sciences, Engineering and Technology Resources in the global Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems (EOLSS), which is an integrated compendium of twenty one Encyclopedias. The theme on Agricultural Land Improvement: Amelioration and Reclamation has two volumes with contributions from distinguished experts in the field, discusses amelioration practices and measures for radical improvement of unfavorable hydrologic, soil, and agroclimatic conditions, with a view to the most efficient use of land resources. The content of the theme is organized with state-of-the-art presentations covering the following aspects of the subject: Necessity of Development of Land Reclamation; Irrigation; Drainage of Farmlands; Chemical Amelioration of Soils; Biological and Agrotechnical Amelioration, which are then expanded into multiple subtopics, each as a chapter. These volumes are aimed at the following five major target audiences: University and College Students Educators, Professional Practitioners, Research Personnel and Policy Analysts, Managers, and Decision Makers and NGOs
Download or read book Culture of Cold Water Marine Fish written by Erlend Moksness and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the continuing decline of commercial stocks of wild-caught fish, the interest in the culture of cold-water marine fish is rapidly growing, with much ongoing research into the development of this area. This important and timely book reviews the current and potential future situation concerning the major exploited marine fish species, such as cod, haddock, hake, wolf-fish, halibut, turbot and sole. The editors of Culture of Cold-Water Marine Fish have drawn together and carefully edited chapters from a wide range of international scientists. The contents list includes detailed reviews of abiotic factors, microbial interactions, prophylaxis and disease, live food and first feeding technologies, brood stock and egg production, functional development, weaning and nursery, on-growing to market size, status and perspectives for the species covered, stock enhancement and sea ranching, and an analysis of the finances, economics and markets for the fish species used in marine aquaculture. Culture of Cold-Water Marine Fish is an essential purchase for personnel involved in marine aquaculture, whether managing fish farms, supplying equipment and feed to the industry, or researching, studying or teaching the subject. Marine biologists, fisheries scientists, fish biologists, ecologists and environmental scientists will all find much of use and interest in this timely book. Libraries in all universities and research establishments where these subjects are studied and taught should have copies.
Download or read book Model Predictive Control on Open Water Systems written by Peter-Jules van Overloop and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the research Model Predictive Control on Open Water Systems', the relatively new control methodology Model Predictive Control is configured for application of water quantity control on open water systems, especially on irrigation canals and large drainage systems. The methodology applies an internal model of the open water system, by which optimal control actions are calculated over a prediction horizon. As internal model, two simplified models are used, the Integrator Delay model and the Saint Venant model. Kalman filtering is applied to initialize the internal models. The optimization uses an objective function in which conflicting objectives can be weighed. In most of the cases, these conflicting objectives are keeping the water levels at different locations in the water system within a range around setpoint and executing this by using as little control effort or energy as possible.

Download or read book Irrigation and Drainage Engineering written by Peter Waller and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-11-18 with total page 747 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook focuses specifically on the combined topics of irrigation and drainage engineering. It emphasizes both basic concepts and practical applications of the latest technologies available. The design of irrigation, pumping, and drainage systems using Excel and Visual Basic for Applications programs are explained for both graduate and undergraduate students and practicing engineers. The book emphasizes environmental protection, economics, and engineering design processes. It includes detailed chapters on irrigation economics, soils, reference evapotranspiration, crop evapotranspiration, pipe flow, pumps, open-channel flow, groundwater, center pivots, turf and landscape, drip, orchards, wheel lines, hand lines, surfaces, greenhouse hydroponics, soil water movement, drainage systems design, drainage and wetlands contaminant fate and transport. It contains summaries, homework problems, and color photos. The book draws from the fields of fluid mechanics, soil physics, hydrology, soil chemistry, economics, and plant sciences to present a broad interdisciplinary view of the fundamental concepts in irrigation and drainage systems design.
