Book Lamp of Non dual Knowledge

Download or read book Lamp of Non dual Knowledge written by Swami Hariharānandasarasvatī and published by World Wisdom, Inc. This book was released on 2003 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The spiritual tradition of India known as Advaita Vedanta is one of the most profound visions of the Absolute known to man. Its message speaks to the heart of freedom; it teaches that liberation is found only in the realization of God and that the deepest happiness is the knowledge of the essential identity between the soul and God. Advaita Bodha Deepika (Lamp of Non-Dual Knowledge) and Kaivalya Navaneeta (Cream of Liberation) are two gems taken from the crown of that great tradition. The content of both represents a distillation of the soul of Hinduism. Opening their pages, the reader is transported back in time to a grassy spot under a shady tree outside a temple in south India to overhear conversations between master and disciple concerning the most important questions of human existence. Many people have found that Lamp of Non-Dual Knowledge is the clearest, easiest to understand summary of Advaita Vedanta. It is in the form of a dialogue between a seeker and his spiritual master, with the seeker posing many probing questions about the nature of existence, the universe, and humankind. Cream of Liberation is a widely known Advaita classic and outlines the basic philosophical principles in a very clear way, again in the form of a dialogue between master and devotee. Among all of the explicitly formulated metaphysical doctrines found in the religions of the world, Advaita Vedanta is one of the most complete and clearly articulated. These two short classics (largely unknown in the West), presented in a single volume, provide an excellent introduction for the reader who wishes to drink from the stream of that transforming wisdom which Hindus call sanatana dharma (eternal religion). This is the underlying religion which has guided and illuminated countless souls since the Vedic period began some twelve hundred years before the birth of Christ.

Book How to Attain Enlightenment

Download or read book How to Attain Enlightenment written by James Swartz and published by Sentient+ORM. This book was released on 2010-02-16 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Goes through the entire gamut of topics covered by the Vedas, making use of yoga, detachment, the ego, karma, dharma, love, meditation and much more.” —East and West Magazine This complete guide to enlightenment presents the wisdom of the ancient science of self-inquiry, a time-tested means for achieving spiritual freedom. The author discusses the purpose of self-inquiry, the quest for lasting happiness, issues of identity and transcendence, the role of wisdom and action, and the subconscious obstacles to freedom. He convincingly refutes the popular view that enlightenment is a unique state of consciousness and debunks a host of other enlightenment myths. In his straightforward style he reveals proven methods for purifying the mind, and includes chapters on love, the science of energy transformation and meditation. He takes the reader from the beginning to the end of the spiritual path, patiently unfolding the logic of self-inquiry. “Vedanta is the original systemized enlightenment teaching, and James does an extraordinary job of extracting the essential nectar of the teachings from its dusty, ancient, Sanskrit origins and elucidating it with utmost clarity. One review cannot do this teaching, with its rich history and depth, even a modicum of justice. James’s book is the best introduction there is to this subject.” —Consciousness Junkie “Explains methods of Vedanta in his survey of spiritual techniques, pairing theory with practice and explaining the myths and realities behind an enlightened state. From reflections on moving to a larger living space and clutter to assimilating experiences, How to Attain Enlightenment is a powerful survey any new age library needs.” —The Bookwatch

Book Advaita Non Duality for Everyone

Download or read book Advaita Non Duality for Everyone written by Nandakishore Divakarla and published by Educreation Publishing. This book was released on with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the purpose of life? What happens after death? Is there rebirth? Will our sins haunt us? Who am I really? Many of us in our modern, materialistic, fast changing lives wonder about life's many questions that leave us stranded and lost. While every religion/philosophy tries to answer some of life's questions, I have found Advaita philosophy articulated by Jagadguru (Teacher to the Universe) Adi Shankara to be the most effective and comprehensive in covering all of the life's questions/concerns/anxieties. It stands to debate/logic/ reasoning and is yet not complex. However, this philosophy is not widely known, not propagated, frequently misunderstood /ill understood. One would also be surprised to note that this philosophy is present in many religions e.g. Hindu, Christianity, Islam etc. There are immediate, practical benefits of Advaita to every life and also the true benefit of discovering life's purpose. Extracting and organizing key elements from the enunciations of Adishankara, Ramana Maharshi, Sri Karapatra Swami, this compendium aims to help explain the basic concepts, understanding them and next steps in the journey of the inquirer for self-discovery. May these help you in your journey of self-discovery and answers to life's open questions!!!

This book was released on 2021-03-26 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “This royal path (Advaita), revealed by the sages of yore, is now in danger of being closed. The by-lanes are being taken for the royal path. Our effort now is to make people realize that these diversions from the royal road will lead them nowhere. Life’s real problem is not solved with these shortcuts to spirituality. These shortcuts will only result in endangering the seeker… This is a movement for the propagation of the true Vedantic wisdom, the legacy left behind by Shankara Bhagavathpada, the timeless knowledge that is eminently adaptable to the modern times.” ----Shri Yellamraju Srinivasa Rao What is the Absolute Truth? What is my essential nature? How can I grasp the truth and make it my every-day experience? In this book, Shri Yellamraju Srinivasa Rao, with great insight and clarity, answers questions that intrigue seekers of the truth. Srinivasa Rao’s clear and lucid explanations of the Absolute Truth resonate deeply, and awaken the seeker to a direct experience of the Self as Pure Consciousness. “This book is a very useful addition to the Vedanta texts in English. It is an excellent summarization of Advaita.” --- Dr. Aravinda Rao Karanam, Retired DGP, now teaching at www.advaita-academy.org “Shri Yellamraju Srinivasa Rao imparts a no-frills Advaita that has a high fidelity to Shankara’s core teaching. His unique style of explicating the Knowledge Path captures analytical minds and makes one marvel at the rigor of logic and precision of the ancient Indian Sages. Book The Light of Knowledge

Download or read book The Light of Knowledge written by Francis Cody and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2013-11-15 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the early 1990s hundreds of thousands of Tamil villagers in southern India have participated in literacy lessons, science demonstrations, and other events designed to transform them into active citizens with access to state power. These efforts to spread enlightenment among the oppressed are part of a movement known as the Arivoli Iyakkam (the Enlightenment Movement), considered to be among the most successful mass literacy movements in recent history. In The Light of Knowledge, Francis Cody’s ethnography of the Arivoli Iyakkam highlights the paradoxes inherent in such movements that seek to emancipate people through literacy when literacy is a power-laden social practice in its own right. The Light of Knowledge is set primarily in the rural district of Pudukkottai in Tamil Nadu, and it is about activism among laboring women from marginalized castes who have been particularly active as learners and volunteers in the movement. In their endeavors to remake the Tamil countryside through literacy activism, workers in the movement found that their own understanding of the politics of writing and Enlightenment was often transformed as they encountered vastly different notions of language and imaginations of social order. Indeed, while activists of the movement successfully mobilized large numbers of rural women, they did so through logics that often pushed against the very Enlightenment rationality they hoped to foster. Offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at an increasingly important area of social and political activism, The Light of Knowledge brings tools of linguistic anthropology to engage with critical social theories of the postcolonial state.
