Book Laminar Boundary layer Separation Induced by Flares on Cylinders at Zero Angle of Attack

Download or read book Laminar Boundary layer Separation Induced by Flares on Cylinders at Zero Angle of Attack written by Donald M. Kuehn and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laminar boundary-layer separation induced by a flare on a cylindrical body of revolution has been experimentally investigated in the Mach number range of 2.0 to 5.5. The Reynolds number range (based on boundary-layer thickness) was 1x103 to 30x103. Geometric variables were nose shape, cylinder length, and flare angle. Test variables were Mach number, Reynolds number, and heat transfer. The purpose of the investigation was to determine which of these variables most influence laminar boundary-layer separation on a cylinder-flare configuration and to provide data that will aid in the prediction of laminar separation.

Book The Prediction of Turbulent Boundary layer Separation Influenced by Blowing

Download or read book The Prediction of Turbulent Boundary layer Separation Influenced by Blowing written by Arnold Polak and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report presents an analysis predicting separation of a turbulent boundary layer over a cone-flare configuration with gas injected into the boundary layer ahead of separation point. Separation location and separation lengths are compared with experimental data obtained at Mach number of 6 and a range of Reynolds numbers. At the highest Reynolds numbers the extent of separation decreases with increasing Reynolds number. When compared to separation over cylinder-flare body it is found that the extent of separation is lower for the cone-flare configuration. (Author).

Book Investigation of Laminar Boundary layer Separation on a Flat plate ramp Combination with and Without Mass Removal at Mach Numbers 6 8 and 10

Download or read book Investigation of Laminar Boundary layer Separation on a Flat plate ramp Combination with and Without Mass Removal at Mach Numbers 6 8 and 10 written by and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental investigation of laminar boundary-layer separation induced by a trailing edge ramp on a flat plate was conducted at Mach numbers of 6, 8, and 10. The tests were conducted over a range of Reynolds numbers. Longitudinal and spanwise surface pressure distributions, pitot pressure profiles, and shadowgraph pictures were used to investigate the two-dimensionality of the flow and the effects of model geometry, angle of attack, Reynolds number, ramp angle, and mass removal from the separation region. Data are presented to show that laminar, two-dimensional boundary-layer reattachment, not limited by model geometry, was obtained. These data are compared to the integral-moment theory of Lees and Reeves as modified by Klineberg. It is also shown that a separation region can be reduced or even eliminated by removing mass at the hinge line. (Author).

Book Incompressible Laminar Boundary layers on a Parabola at Angle of Attack

Download or read book Incompressible Laminar Boundary layers on a Parabola at Angle of Attack written by M. J. Werle and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The laminar boundary-layer equations were solved for incompressible flow past a parabola at angle of attack. Such flow experiences a region of adverse pressure gradient and thus can be employed to study the boundary-layer separation process. The present solutions were obtained numerically using both implicit and Crank Nicholson type difference schemes. It was found that in all cases the point of vanishing shear stress (the separation point) displayed a Goldstein type singularity. Based on this evidence, it is concluded that a singularity is always present at separation independent of the mildness of the pressure gradient at that point. (Author).
