Book Lambda Polarization in Exclusive Electro and Photoproduction at CLAS

Download or read book Lambda Polarization in Exclusive Electro and Photoproduction at CLAS written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The CLAS collaboration at JLab has recent results on[Lambda] polarization for both electroproduction and photoproduction of K[sup+][Lambda] exclusive states. I note the striking phenomenological trends in the data and discuss the underlying physics which might give rise to these phenomena; both in the context of an e.ective Lagrangian formalism, where the degrees of freedom are intermediate mesons and baryons, and also in the context of a simple quark picture. The quark model argument leads to the conclusion that the s and[bar s] quarks are produced with spins anti-aligned, in apparent contradiction to the popular[sup 3]P[sub 0] model of quark pair creation in which the pair is created with vacuum quantum numbers (J=0 and positive parity), i.e. in an S=1, L=1, J=0 angular momentum state.

Book excerpt: I present recent results from the CLAS collaboration on Lambda and Sigma^0 polarization for both electroproduction and photoproduction of K^+Lambda and K^+Sigma^0 exclusive states. I interpret these data using a simple quark model, leading to the surprising conclusion that the s and s(pol) quarks are produced with spins anti-aligned, in apparent contradiction to the popular ^3P_0 model of quark pair creation.

Book Hyperon Photo and Electroproduction at CLAS

Download or read book Hyperon Photo and Electroproduction at CLAS written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The large acceptance and high multiplicity capabilities of the CLAS detector make it possible to study a wide range of previously unmeasured strange baryon production processes. Studies of the decay angular distributions of electroproduced strange baryons have yielded several interesting new results. The $\Lambda$(1520) electroproduction decay angular distributions shed light on the spin projections of the $\Lambda$(1520). Analysis of the decay angular distributions of the weakly decaying $\Lambda$(1116) have revealed the induced baryon polarization due to unpolarized incident electron beams. In addition to these topics, other features of the CLAS strange baryon program, such as photoproduction and virtual photon L-T decompositions, are also briefly summarized.

Book Differential Cross Section and Recoil Polarization Measurements for the Gamma P to K Lambda Reaction Using CLAS at Jefferson Lab

Download or read book Differential Cross Section and Recoil Polarization Measurements for the Gamma P to K Lambda Reaction Using CLAS at Jefferson Lab written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present measurements of the differential cross section and Lambda recoil polarization for the gamma p to K+ Lambda reaction made using the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab. These measurements cover the center-of-mass energy range from 1.62 to 2.84 GeV and a wide range of center-of-mass K+ production angles. Independent analyses were performed using the K+ p pi- and K+ p (missing pi - ) final-state topologies; results from these analyses were found to exhibit good agreement. These differential cross section measurements show excellent agreement with previous CLAS and LEPS results and offer increased precision and a 300 MeV increase in energy coverage. The recoil polarization data agree well with previous results and offer a large increase in precision and a 500 MeV extension in energy range. The increased center-of-mass energy range that these data represent will allow for independent study of non-resonant K+ Lambda photoproduction mechanisms at all production angles.

Book Nstar 2001 Proceedings Of The Workshop On The Physics Of Excited Nucleons

Download or read book Nstar 2001 Proceedings Of The Workshop On The Physics Of Excited Nucleons written by Dieter Drechsel and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001-08-28 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of N∗s can provide us with critical insights into the nature of QCD in the confinement domain. The keys to progress in this domain are the identification of its important degrees of freedom and the effective forces between them. The nucleon is the simplest system in which the nonabelian character of QCD is manifest. There are Nc quarks in a baryon because there are Nc colors, and as a consequence Gell-Mann and Zweig were forced to introduce the quarks in order to describe the octet and decuplet baryons. This volume gives a status report on the recent experimental and theoretical results in the field of nucleon resonance physics. A wealth of new high precision data was presented from facilities around the world, such as BES, BNL, ELSA, GRAAL, JLab, MAMI, MIT/Bates, SPring8, and Yerevan. Particular emphasis was laid on polarization degrees of freedom and large acceptance detectors as precision tools for studying small but important transition amplitudes, and the helicity (spin) structure of the nucleon. There were new results describing the nucleon resonance structure on the basis of quantum chromodynamics, either directly in terms of quarks and gluons by means of lattice gauge theory, or in terms of hadrons in the framework of chiral field theories. A status report on duality showed the surprising connections between the physics of the low energy nucleon resonance region and the realm of quark structure functions in deep inelastic scattering. Finally, this volume contains a summary report of the BRAG workshop, devoted to the analysis of baryon resonances.

  • Pages : 273 pages

Download or read book Spin Structure of the Nucleon written by Erhard Steffens and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive survey of the most recent results from the field of quark-gluon structure of the nucleon, in particular how the spin of the nucleon is shared by its constituents. After very intriguing results from CERN and SLAC at the end of the 1980s, the last decade has seen a set of second-generation experiments at high energy accelerators that have yielded precise information on the solution of the 'Spin Crisis' - as well as opening up new questions. The articles are written by experts from the leading collaboration and theory groups as well as providing an expert summary of the state of the art, the book points the way to future research directions. Its main focus is on semi-inclusive and exclusive measurements of deep inelastic lepton scattering, which enables for the first time the determination of the flavor-separated quark spin distributions. Future developments on generalized parton distributions and their interpretation as well as the transverse spin structure are also covered. An indispensable volume for all working in hadronic physics.

Book Introduction to High Energy Physics

Download or read book Introduction to High Energy Physics written by Donald H. Perkins and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2000-04-13 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This highly-regarded text provides a comprehensive introduction to modern particle physics. Extensively rewritten and updated, this 4th edition includes developments in elementary particle physics, as well as its connections with cosmology and astrophysics. As in previous editions, the balance between experiment and theory is continually emphasised. The stress is on the phenomenological approach and basic theoretical concepts rather than rigorous mathematical detail. Short descriptions are given of some of the key experiments in the field, and how they have influenced our thinking. Although most of the material is presented in the context of the Standard Model of quarks and leptons, the shortcomings of this model and new physics beyond its compass (such as supersymmetry, neutrino mass and oscillations, GUTs and superstrings) are also discussed. The text includes many problems and a detailed and annotated further reading list.
