Book Lambda Polarization in Exclusive Electro and Photoproduction at CLAS

Download or read book Lambda Polarization in Exclusive Electro and Photoproduction at CLAS written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The CLAS collaboration at JLab has recent results on[Lambda] polarization for both electroproduction and photoproduction of K[sup+][Lambda] exclusive states. I note the striking phenomenological trends in the data and discuss the underlying physics which might give rise to these phenomena; both in the context of an e.ective Lagrangian formalism, where the degrees of freedom are intermediate mesons and baryons, and also in the context of a simple quark picture. The quark model argument leads to the conclusion that the s and[bar s] quarks are produced with spins anti-aligned, in apparent contradiction to the popular[sup 3]P[sub 0] model of quark pair creation in which the pair is created with vacuum quantum numbers (J=0 and positive parity), i.e. in an S=1, L=1, J=0 angular momentum state.

Book excerpt: I present recent results from the CLAS collaboration on Lambda and Sigma^0 polarization for both electroproduction and photoproduction of K^+Lambda and K^+Sigma^0 exclusive states. I interpret these data using a simple quark model, leading to the surprising conclusion that the s and s(pol) quarks are produced with spins anti-aligned, in apparent contradiction to the popular ^3P_0 model of quark pair creation.

Book A Measurement of the Recoil Polarization of Electroproduced Lambda 1116

Download or read book A Measurement of the Recoil Polarization of Electroproduced Lambda 1116 written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer at the Thomas Jefferson National Laboratory was used to study the reaction e + p → e' + K+ + [Lambda](1116) for events where [Lambda](1116) subsequently decayed via the channel [Lambda](1116) → p + [pi]-. Data were taken at incident electron beam energies of 2.5, 4.0, and 4.2 GeV during the 1999 E1C run period. They hyperon production spectra span the Q2 range from 0.5 to 2.8 GeV2 and nearly the entire range in the center of mass angles. The proton angular distribution in the [Lambda](1116) rest frame is used to deduce the recoil polarization of the hyperon, and the W and cos [theta]$K+\atop{cm}$ dependence of the recoil polarization will be presented. The data show sizeable negative polarizations for the [Lambda](1116) as a function of both cos [theta]$K+\atop{cm}$ and W.

Book First Measurement of Transferred Polarization in the Exclusive E P E K Lambda Reaction

Download or read book First Measurement of Transferred Polarization in the Exclusive E P E K Lambda Reaction written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first measurements of the transferred polarization for the exclusive {rvec e}p --> e(prime)K{rvec {Lambda}} reaction have been performed in Hall B at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility using the CLAS spectrometer. A 2.567 GeV electron beam was used to measure the hyperon polarization over a range of Q2 from 0.3 to 1.5 (GeV/c)2, W from 1.6 to 2.15 GeV, and over the full center-of-mass angular range of the K meson. Comparison with predictions of hadrodynamic models indicates strong sensitivity to the underlying resonance contributions. A non-relativistic quark model interpretation of our data suggests that the s{bar s} quark pair is produced with spins predominantly anti-aligned. Implications for the validity of the widely used 3P{sub o} quark-pair creation operator are discussed.

Book Nstar 2001 Proceedings Of The Workshop On The Physics Of Excited Nucleons

Download or read book Nstar 2001 Proceedings Of The Workshop On The Physics Of Excited Nucleons written by Dieter Drechsel and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001-08-28 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of N∗s can provide us with critical insights into the nature of QCD in the confinement domain. The keys to progress in this domain are the identification of its important degrees of freedom and the effective forces between them. The nucleon is the simplest system in which the nonabelian character of QCD is manifest. There are Nc quarks in a baryon because there are Nc colors, and as a consequence Gell-Mann and Zweig were forced to introduce the quarks in order to describe the octet and decuplet baryons. This volume gives a status report on the recent experimental and theoretical results in the field of nucleon resonance physics. A wealth of new high precision data was presented from facilities around the world, such as BES, BNL, ELSA, GRAAL, JLab, MAMI, MIT/Bates, SPring8, and Yerevan. Particular emphasis was laid on polarization degrees of freedom and large acceptance detectors as precision tools for studying small but important transition amplitudes, and the helicity (spin) structure of the nucleon. There were new results describing the nucleon resonance structure on the basis of quantum chromodynamics, either directly in terms of quarks and gluons by means of lattice gauge theory, or in terms of hadrons in the framework of chiral field theories. A status report on duality showed the surprising connections between the physics of the low energy nucleon resonance region and the realm of quark structure functions in deep inelastic scattering. Finally, this volume contains a summary report of the BRAG workshop, devoted to the analysis of baryon resonances.
