Book Lambda Matrices and Vibrating Systems

Download or read book Lambda Matrices and Vibrating Systems written by Peter Lancaster and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-07-10 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lambda-Matrices and Vibrating Systems presents aspects and solutions to problems concerned with linear vibrating systems with a finite degrees of freedom and the theory of matrices. The book discusses some parts of the theory of matrices that will account for the solutions of the problems. The text starts with an outline of matrix theory, and some theorems are proved. The Jordan canonical form is also applied to understand the structure of square matrices. Classical theorems are discussed further by applying the Jordan canonical form, the Rayleigh quotient, and simple matrix pencils with latent vectors in common. The book then expounds on Lambda matrices and on some numerical methods for Lambda matrices. These methods explain developments of known approximations and rates of convergence. The text then addresses general solutions for simultaneous ordinary differential equations with constant coefficients. The results of some of the studies are then applied to the theory of vibration by applying the Lagrange method for formulating equations of motion, after the formula establishing the energies and dissipation functions are completed. The book describes the theory of resonance testing using the stationary phase method, where the test is carried out by applying certain forces to the structure being studied, and the amplitude of response in the structure is measured. The book also discusses other difficult problems. The text can be used by physicists, engineers, mathematicians, and designers of industrial equipment that incorporates motion in the design.

Book Vibration with Control

Download or read book Vibration with Control written by Daniel J. Inman and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-11-02 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineers are becoming increasingly aware of the problems caused by vibration in engineering design, particularly in the areas of structural health monitoring and smart structures. Vibration is a constant problem as it can impair performance and lead to fatigue, damage and the failure of a structure. Control of vibration is a key factor in preventing such detrimental results. This book presents a homogenous treatment of vibration by including those factors from control that are relevant to modern vibration analysis, design and measurement. Vibration and control are established on a firm mathematical basis and the disciplines of vibration, control, linear algebra, matrix computations, and applied functional analysis are connected. Key Features: Assimilates the discipline of contemporary structural vibration with active control Introduces the use of Matlab into the solution of vibration and vibration control problems Provides a unique blend of practical and theoretical developments Contains examples and problems along with a solutions manual and power point presentations Vibration with Control is an essential text for practitioners, researchers, and graduate students as it can be used as a reference text for its complex chapters and topics, or in a tutorial setting for those improving their knowledge of vibration and learning about control for the first time. Whether or not you are familiar with vibration and control, this book is an excellent introduction to this emerging and increasingly important engineering discipline.

Book Damped Oscillations of Linear Systems

Download or read book Damped Oscillations of Linear Systems written by Krešimir Veselić and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-07-09 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of linear damped oscillations was originally developed more than hundred years ago and is still of vital research interest to engineers, mathematicians and physicists alike. This theory plays a central role in explaining the stability of mechanical structures in civil engineering, but it also has applications in other fields such as electrical network systems and quantum mechanics. This volume gives an introduction to linear finite dimensional damped systems as they are viewed by an applied mathematician. After a short overview of the physical principles leading to the linear system model, a largely self-contained mathematical theory for this model is presented. This includes the geometry of the underlying indefinite metric space, spectral theory of J-symmetric matrices and the associated quadratic eigenvalue problem. Particular attention is paid to the sensitivity issues which influence numerical computations. Finally, several recent research developments are included, e.g. Lyapunov stability and the perturbation of the time evolution.

Book Matrix Polynomials

Download or read book Matrix Polynomials written by I. Gohberg and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2009-07-23 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the definitive treatment of the theory of polynomials in a complex variable with matrix coefficients. Basic matrix theory can be viewed as the study of the special case of polynomials of first degree; the theory developed in Matrix Polynomials is a natural extension of this case to polynomials of higher degree. It has applications in many areas, such as differential equations, systems theory, the Wiener-Hopf technique, mechanics and vibrations, and numerical analysis. Although there have been significant advances in some quarters, this work remains the only systematic development of the theory of matrix polynomials. The book is appropriate for students, instructors, and researchers in linear algebra, operator theory, differential equations, systems theory, and numerical analysis. Its contents are accessible to readers who have had undergraduate-level courses in linear algebra and complex analysis.

Book Acoustics Aeroacoustics and Vibrations

Download or read book Acoustics Aeroacoustics and Vibrations written by Fabien Anselmet and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-02-15 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This didactic book presents the main elements of acoustics, aeroacoustics and vibrations. Illustrated with numerous concrete examples linked to solid and fluid continua, Acoustics, Aeroacoustics and Vibrations proposes a selection of applications encountered in the three fields, whether in room acoustics, transport, energy production systems or environmental problems. Theoretical approaches enable us to analyze the different processes in play. Typical results, mostly from numerical simulations, are used to illustrate the main phenomena (fluid acoustics, radiation, diffraction, vibroacoustics, etc.).

Book Extrema for Eigenvalues of Vibrating Systems

Download or read book Extrema for Eigenvalues of Vibrating Systems written by Dallas O. Banks and published by . This book was released on 1944 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of two areas of research are reported. The first concerns bounds for the eigenvalues of vibrating strings. The second concerns bounds for eigenvalues of a positive symmetric definite matrix A relative to a nonnegative matrix B, i.e., the values of lambda such that the system of equations (A-lambda x B)x =0 has a nontrivial solution. The results in this case are the analog of results found earlier by the investigator for the eigenvalues of a vibrating string.
