Book Rock Art at Little Lake

Download or read book Rock Art at Little Lake written by JoAnne Van Tilburg and published by Cotsen Institute of Archaeology. This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recipient of the Jo Anne Stolaroff Cotsen Prize The product of ten years of fieldwork at Little Lake Ranch in the Rose Valley, the southern gateway to the Owens Valley, this book presents the results of intensive rock art analyses carried out by the interdisciplinary research team of the UCLA Rock Art Archive. The research attempts to establish a connective web of associations to break down traditional but artificial barriers between rock art and the rest of archaeology. Through time-honored methods of stylistic analysis, the focus is on recent breakthroughs in the analysis of meaning and religion in the context of landscape attributes and ecological opportunities. Regional or ethnic differences suggested by the rock art record has made it possible to create a flexible analytical framework containing previously unpublished or overlooked archaeological excavation and object data. This book describes the occurrence, concentration, distribution, and formal variation of pecked and painted motifs. Scratched, pecked, and painted patterns are analyzed separately. Full-color illustrations throughout enhance the physical appeal of this beautiful book.

Book The Story of the Guenoc Ranch Lake Napa Counties California

Download or read book The Story of the Guenoc Ranch Lake Napa Counties California written by Genevieve Magoon and published by M Bredt Ink, LLC. This book was released on 2009-09-01 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally printed in 1976, Genevieve Magoon's "The Story of the Guenoc Ranch: Lake and Napa Counties, California" has been often quoted by other authors. Long out of print, an Internet search found only 16 copies in libraries worldwide and not a single copy for sale. Now, new generations of readers and researchers can enjoy this glimpse into our past. Magoon's extensive research and collection of unique historical photos document important players in the development of northern California's wine industry and the growth of Lake County, a still-pastoral retreat 100 miles north of San Francisco at the uppermost reaches of the Sonoma-Napa wine country. Magoon's fascination with famed Lillie Langtry contributed to the success of Guenoc Winery, one of the prime movers in first bringing California wines to international acclaim. The still widely respected "ranch" about which Magoon writes is now known as Langtry Estate & Vineyards. Stone House Historical Society Hidden Valley Lake, California - 2009
