Book Brown Trout

Download or read book Brown Trout written by Javier Lobón-Cerviá and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-12-18 with total page 821 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brown Trout: Biology, Ecology and Management A comprehensive guide to the most current research, history, genetics and ecology of the brown trout including challenging environmental problems The brown trout is an iconic species across its natural European distribution and has been introduced throughout the World. Brown Trout offers a comprehensive review of the scientific information and current research on this major fish species. While the brown trout is the most sought species by anglers, its introduction to various waters around the world is causing serious environmental problems. At the same time, introduction of exogenous brown trout lineages threats conservation of native gene pools of populations in many regions. The authors summarize the important aspects of the brown trout’s life history and ecology and focus on the impact caused by the species. The text explores potential management strategies in order to maintain numerous damaged populations within its natural distributional range and to ameliorate its impacts in exotic environments. The authors include information on a wide-range of topics such as recent updates in population genetics, evolutionary history, reproductive traits and early ontogeny, life history plasticity in anadromous brown trout and life history of the adfluvial brown trout and much more. This vital resource: Contains the latest research on the biology and ecology of brown trout Includes information on phylogeography, genetics, population dynamics and stock management Spotlights the brown trout’s introduction to regions around the world and the serious environmental impacts Offers a comprehensive review of conservation and management techniques Written for salmonid scientists and researchers, fishery and environmental managers, and students of population genetics, ecology and population dynamics, Brown Trout explores the most recent findings on the history, ecology and sustainability of this much-researched species.

Book In Pursuit of Trout

Download or read book In Pursuit of Trout written by Bob South and published by . This book was released on 2005-07 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As well as "plumbing the depth's of one's character", fishing for trout is all about doing it well, about learning to catch more fish, about understanding and respecting the species we so discreetly choose to pursue. In Pursuit of Trout is a collection of 23 outstanding chapters, carefully plucked from river and lake fishing articles published over the last 13 years in 71 issues of the award winning Fish and Game New Zealand magazine. It comes on the heels of the well-received book, Bird Hunting, released last March as the first in an ongoing series of Fish and Game New Zealand Collection publications. In Pursuit of Trout includes chapters about casting, nymphing, downstreaming, dry fly fishing, rivermouth fishing, stalking stillwaters, boat fishing, and even looks at the social behaviour of trout, as well as the facts and myths surrounding catch and release. If you wish to know how to attack "sexy" water, pocket water, pools, or just manage the correct drift, then this is a MUST read for you. The book boasts contributions from a veritable Who's Who of New Zealand freshwater fishing, not least Peter Church, Les Hill, Mark Sherburn, Tony Entwistle, Jack MacKenzie, Zane Mirfin, John Hayes, and David Moate. It also combines the talents of this country's finest flyfishing photographers. Edited by Fish and Game New Zealand editor Bob South, In Pursuit of Trout provides an incomparable range of how-to knowledge that will entertain, inform, and educate anglers of all ages and abilities.

Download or read book The Walleye War written by Larry Nesper and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For generations, the Ojibwe bands of northern Wisconsin have spearfished spawning walleyed pike in the springtime. The bands reserved hunting, fishing, and gathering rights on the lands that would become the northern third of Wisconsin in treaties signed withøthe federal government in 1837, 1842, and 1854. Those rights, however, would be ignored by the state of Wisconsin for more than a century. When a federal appeals court in 1983 upheld the bands' off-reservation rights, a deep and far-reaching conflict erupted between the Ojibwe bands and some of their non-Native neighbors. Starting in the mid-1980s, protesters and supporters flocked to the boat landings of lakes being spearfished; Ojibwe spearfisher-men were threatened, stoned, and shot at. Peace and protest rallies, marches, and ceremonies galvanized and rocked the local communities and reservations, and individuals and organizations from across the country poured into northern Wisconsin to take sides in the spearfishing dispute. From the front lines on lakes to tense, behind-the-scenes maneuvering on and off reservations, The Walleye War tells the riveting story of the spearfishing conflict, drawing on the experiences and perspectives of the members of the Lac du Flambeau reservation and an anthropologist who accompanied them on spearfishing expeditions. We learn of the historical roots and cultural significance of spearfishing and off-reservation treaty rights and we see why many modern Ojibwes and non-Natives view them in profoundly different ways. We also come to understand why the Flambeau tribal council and some tribal members disagreed with the spearfishermen and pursued a policy of negotiation with the state to lease the off-reservation treaty rights for fifty million dollars. Fought with rocks and metaphors, The Walleye War is the story of a Native people's struggle for dignity, identity, and self-preservation in the modern world.
