Pro posed canal; thence in a course almost due north across said summit level a distance of miles to a point about 2 miles east of Rock creek, Ohio, which point is the northern limit of the summit level; thence by the valleys of Grand river and Indian creek about miles to a point at or near the mouth of Indian creek on Lake Erie, approximately 6% miles west of Ashtabula; making the total length of the route 101% miles. On this route the elevation to be ascended from the mouth of the Beaver river to the summit level is 232 feet, and the descent from the summit level to the lake 327 feet.
