Book Lake Country Rambles Classic Reprint

Download or read book Lake Country Rambles Classic Reprint written by William T. Palmer and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-07 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lake-Country Rambles I have in the following chapters endeavoured to paint a series of word-pictures of the Lake Country. The scenes are diverse, every phase of fell life out of doors in which I have found the picturesque having been laid under contribution. It is the narrative of one who, in a dozen years of wandering, has been brought into close contact with shepherds, poachers, anglers, and dalesmen of various degrees. If a preponderance of atten tion appears to be given to sport, it is because recollections of this side of life are easier and more vividly retained than are those of ordinary work days. After the first three chapters (two of which are almost personal), the arrangement is according to the sequence from spring to spring in which the various scenes may be encountered. Book The Lake Country Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Lake Country Classic Reprint written by E. Lynn Linton and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-14 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Lake Country I wish to express now my most grateful thanks to Thomas Wright, Esq., m.a., f.r.s. &c., for an amount of kindly help, rare even in the literary world where there is so much genuine kindness. He took infinite pains to render my Early History free from faults, and he did this with a fulness and frankness of generosity that enhanced even the value of his scientific aid. To Edward Hull, Esq., &c., I would also add my best thanks for relieving me of the responsibility of the geological chapter, to the great improvement of the work, which has gained so much by his accurate knowledge. Of the engravings I cannot speak, as can be easily understood, because of the relations between the artist and myself I may however say that all the sketches were made expressly for this work during our rambles, and that they have the merit of absolute fidelity for the rest, they will speak for themselves more eloquently than the most florid praises could. The Botanical notices and the Glossary I think will be found to be fuller and more correct than any yet published; and I have only to lament the want of authority in the comparative tables of lakes and waterfalls, which want however I had no possible means of supplying.
