Book Laboratory Measurement of Longitudinal Dispersion Coefficient

Download or read book Laboratory Measurement of Longitudinal Dispersion Coefficient written by Yoshiaki Iwasa and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper is concerned with the longitudinal dispersion coefficient in open channel flows. Recent theoretical developments for the dispersion coefficient are summarized and results of tracer dispersion study in laboratory flumes are presented. They verity that two theoretical formulae predicting the dispersion coefficient in open channel glows give the fine aggement with observed ones. It is also disclosed that the dispersion coefficient mainly influenced by the width to depth ratio, and the empirical relationship between the non-dimensional dispersion coefficient and the width to depth ratio is obtained. [Authors' abstract].

Book Advanced Petrophysics Dispersion interfacial phenomena

Download or read book Advanced Petrophysics Dispersion interfacial phenomena written by Ekwere J. Peters and published by Greenleaf Book Group. This book was released on 2012 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A practical, fast-paced approach to teaching the concepts and problems common in petroleum engineering that will appeal to a wide range of disciplines Petrophysics is the study of rock properties and their interactions with fluids, including gases, liquid hydrocarbons, and aqueous solutions. This three-volume series from distinguished University of Texas professor Dr. Ekwere J. Peters provides a basic understanding of the physical properties of permeable geologic rocks and the interactions of the various fluids with their interstitial surfaces, with special focus on the transport properties of rocks for single-phase and multiphase flow. Based on Dr. Peters's graduate course that has been taught internationally in corporations and classrooms, the series covers core topics and includes full-color CT and NMR images, graphs, and figures to illustrate practical application of the material. Topics addressed in volume 2 (chapters 5-8) include - Dispersion in porous media - Interfacial phenomena and wettability - Capillary pressure - Relative permeability Advanced Petrophysics features over 140 exercises designed to strengthen learning and extend concepts into practice. Additional information in the appendices covers dimensional analysis and a series of real-world projects that enable the student to apply the principles presented in the text to build a petrophysical model using well logs and core data from a major petroleum-producing province.

Book Prediction of Traveltime and Longitudinal Dispersion in Rivers and Streams

Download or read book Prediction of Traveltime and Longitudinal Dispersion in Rivers and Streams written by Harvey E. Jobson and published by . This book was released on 2001-03-01 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The possibility of a contaminant being accidentally or intentionally spilled upstream from a water supply is a constant concern to those diverting and using water from streams and rivers. A method of rapidly estimating traveltime or dispersion is needed for pollution control or warning systems on streams where data are limited. Discusses the theory of movement and dispersion of dissolved pollutants. Contains a summary of the methods used to collect time-of-travel info. Methods are recommended for estimating the rate of movement and attenuation of conservative pollutants based on an analysis of the data. The application of these results is illustrated by the use of 3 examples.

Book excerpt: In recent years the analysis, control, preservation, remediation and correct management of underground resources have received a growing attention in a variety of sectors, including industrial, professional and academic environments. The volume describes new developments in both applied research and design technology to maintain sustainability of a vital resource (groundwater) which is continuously threatened by contamination resulting from solid waste disposal operations, site reutilization, intensive extraction, accidental leakage of spill in working installations and non-point source pollution in agriculture. It is directed to managers, professionals, and researchers working in any of the areas concerned with the control, prediction, and remediation of soil and groundwater contamination.

Book Free Surface Flows and Transport Processes

Download or read book Free Surface Flows and Transport Processes written by Monika B. Kalinowska and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-01-28 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the written, thoroughly reviewed versions of both invited lectures and regular presentations given at the 36th International School of Hydraulics, held at Jachranka in Poland on May 23–26, 2017. The contributions cover recent findings in the areas of mathematical modeling as well as experimental investigations related to free surface flows and pollution, sediment and heat transport processes in rivers. Better understanding of environmental flows requires cognition of physical, chemical and biological attributes of flowing water and therefore hydraulic research becomes strongly interdisciplinary field of science. The authors also realize that fundamental knowledge of environmental hydraulics problems is absolutely essential for planning and design of systems to manage water resources. Nowadays the readers face a rapid development of hydraulic research due to a boom in the computer sciences and measurement techniques and this is what this book is about. Eminent world leading experts in this field and young researchers from sixteen countries from all over the world contributed to this book.

Book Reactive Transport in Porous Media

Download or read book Reactive Transport in Porous Media written by Peter C. Lichtner and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2018-12-17 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 34 of Reviews in Mineralogy focuses on methods to describe the extent and consequences of reactive flow and transport in natural subsurface systems. Since the field of reactive transport within the Earth Sciences is a highly multidisciplinary area of research, including geochemistry, geology, physics, chemistry, hydrology, and engineering, this book is an attempt to some extent bridge the gap between these different disciplines. This volume contains the contributions presented at a short course held in Golden, Colorado, October 25-27, 1996 in conjunction with the Mineralogical Society of America's (MSA) Annual Meeting with the Geological Society of America in Denver, Colorado.
