This book was released on 2015-06-26 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Laboratory Manual Experiments to Illustrate the Elementary, Principles of Chemistry This book is written for the use of college students of general chemistry. In attendance on lectures in general chemistry there are students who may be put in three groups, although these groups are not distinct. For those who are beginning the study, the required experiments have been arranged. In this part, experiments on a few typical elements have been first introduced that their properties may illustrate the fundamental ideas of chemistry. These are followed by experiments on the remaining common elements so arranged as to lead from the study of elements of simple relations to those of more complex relations, while keeping together as far as possible those elements of similar chemical properties. Along with these required experiments a few others have been introduced, which are for the most part exercises in preparing substances of such marked physical properties that their purification and identification require no knowledge of analysis. Book Elementary Chemistry a Laboratory Manual Classic Reprint

Download or read book Elementary Chemistry a Laboratory Manual Classic Reprint written by E. Linebarger and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-14 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elementary Chemistry a Laboratory Manual This Laboratory Manual is intended to accompany the author's Elementary Chemistry, although it may be used independently or in connection with other text-books. To what was said in the preface to that book there may be added the following: Laboratory work in chemistry means the performance of experiments. This involves the selection of suitable experiments, and directions as to their performance. The experiments should be short and should require only simple apparatus and easy manipulation. They should emphasize one main point. The directions for each experiment should be just full enough to insure its successful performance. They ought not to point out what may be expected to happen, and unthinking work should be prevented by questions which cannot be answered by a mere yes or no. Descriptions of most manipulations should be separated from the directions proper, and should be well illustrated. The title of the experiment ought to state explicitly the main point, so that the student may have it clearly in mind while performing the experiment. Quantitative work is now recognized as having a legitimate place in an elementary laboratory course. Quantitative experiments, however, should be simple and not demand more than a double period for their performance. The results should be considered satisfactory when they represent fairly well all that the method and the apparatus are capable of yielding. Qualitative analysis should not be entirely neglected, but it should not be allowed to degenerate into mere "test-tubing." Students, as a rule, find it fascinating work, and apparently derive benefit from it. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
