Book Synthesis and Technique in Inorganic Chemistry

Download or read book Synthesis and Technique in Inorganic Chemistry written by Gregory S. Girolami and published by University Science Books. This book was released on 1999 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Previously by Angelici, this laboratory manual for an upper-level undergraduate or graduate course in inorganic synthesis has for many years been the standard in the field. In this newly revised third edition, the manual has been extensively updated to reflect new developments in inorganic chemistry. Twenty-three experiments are divided into five sections: solid state chemistry, main group chemistry, coordination chemistry, organometallic chemistry, and bioinorganic chemistry. The included experiments are safe, have been thoroughly tested to ensure reproducibility, are illustrative of modern issues in inorganic chemistry, and are capable of being performed in one or two laboratory periods of three or four hours. Because facilities vary from school to school, the authors have included a broad range of experiments to help provide a meaningful course in almost any academic setting. Each clearly written & illustrated experiment begins with an introduction that hig! hlights the theme of the experiment, often including a discussion of a particular characterization method that will be used, followed by the experimental procedure, a set of problems, a listing of suggested Independent Studies, and literature references.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Includes well designed and selected experiments on volumetric, gravimetric and spectrophotometric analysis, and an ecofriendly approach of analyzing a mixture incorporates the spot tests and semi-micro analysis. The safety instructions usually not available in practical books but necessary for those working in a chemistry laboratory are also included. A comprehensive theory has been introduced before the start of each experiment, and the observation tables with calculations are based on the actual experiments. Some questions related to the experiments for viva-voce are provided. This book provides training to the students and also serves as a reference book for the teachers and industrial chemists.

Book A Course of Instruction in the Qualitative Chemical Analysis of Inorganic Substances Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Course of Instruction in the Qualitative Chemical Analysis of Inorganic Substances Classic Reprint written by Arthur A. Noyes and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-18 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Course of Instruction in the Qualitative Chemical Analysis of Inorganic Substances The Course of Instruction includes two sections - one entitled Labora tory Experiments, giving the directions for the laboratory work; and the other entitled Questions on the Experiments, consisting of a series of ques tions to be studied in'connection with the class-room exercises. The laboratory work described in the section on Laboratory Experiments is from beginning to end closely correlated with the systematic scheme of analysis. For experience has convinced the author that the plan followed in many text-books of requiring the student to study the separate reactions characteristic of the various elements before undertaking their systematic separation is highly unsatisfactory. However valuable the knowledge of the additional reactions might be, it is found in practice that the perform ance of so large a number of independent, disconnected experiments makes little impression on the student's mind and fails to awaken his interest in the subject. Qualitative analysis affords an efiective means of teaching a part of inorganic chemistry chiefly because it unites into a connected whole a great variety of isolated facts, and because the student sees a practical use of the information presented to him; but these advantages evidently do not apply to facts not directly related to the process of analysis. The Questions on the Experiments do not in general include such purely informational questions as are immediately suggested by the Notes on the Procedures. They are mainly intended to assist the instructor in training his students more fully in the general principles involved and in enabling them to derive from the subject the mental training it is capable of afford ing. They are in large part of such a character that, in order to answer them properly, the student must not only carefully study the Notes on the Procedures, but must also do independent thinking. It is assumed in these questions, as well as in the Notes on the Procedures, that the student has previously acquired, in his course on Inorganic Chemistry, a general knowl edge oi the mass - action law and of the chemical aspects of the ionic theory. To what extent the instructor will make use of the Questions will depend on the time available for the course and on the maturity of his students. Book Laboratory Directions and Study Questions in Inorganic Chemistry

Download or read book Laboratory Directions and Study Questions in Inorganic Chemistry written by Alex Silverman and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-25 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Laboratory Directions and Study Questions in Inorganic Chemistry The following loose-leaf Laboratory Directions which have been tried and corrected in our laboratories for the past five years are now presented in printed form for the benefit of other institutions. In the University of Pittsburgh the student will, on an average, complete one set of experiments per three-hour period. He is scheduled for two such periods per week throughout the college year. Results are noted on a separate sheet and submitted with the instruction sheet at the end of each period. Both the direction sheet and record sheet are stamped by the instructor before they are returned to the student. A word should be said about the study questions which constitute the second half of this volume. These serve as a study guide for the student. Questions of major importance are starred. All recitations and examinations are conducted on the basis of these questions so that a uniform system is employed even where a dozen or more instructors handle different sections. The method has met with such marked success here that there is no doubt about its success when introduced into other institutions. The authors will welcome notice of errors found in this volume and invite suggestions from those who have occasion to use it. Book Laboratory Inquiry in Chemistry

Download or read book Laboratory Inquiry in Chemistry written by Richard Bauer and published by Cengage Learning. This book was released on 2008-03-27 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LABORATORY INQUIRY IN CHEMISTRY, Thrid Edition provides a unique set of guided-inquiry investigations that focus on constructing knowledge about the conceptual basis of laboratory techniques, instead of simply learning techniques. By focusing on developing skills for designing experiments, solving problems, thinking critically, and selecting and applying appropriate techniques, the authors expose students to a realistic laboratory experience, typical of the practicing chemist. This new edition continues the proven three-phase learning cycle: exploration of chemical behaviors within the context of the problems posed; concept invention--the use of data and observations to construct accepted scientific knowledge about the concepts explored in the laboratory investigation; and, concept application--where students apply their conceptual understanding of the investigation at hand by modifying or extending the experiments, and write a report that emphasizes conceptual relevance. These college and honors level inquiry-based experiments correlate well with the recommended experiments outlined by the Advanced Placement Chemistry Development Committee.
