Book Handbook of High Resolution Infrared Laboratory Spectra of Atmospheric Interest 1981

Download or read book Handbook of High Resolution Infrared Laboratory Spectra of Atmospheric Interest 1981 written by Aaron Goldman and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The handbook presents spectra to be utilized for the detection and measurement of new constituents in the earth's atmosphere and to obtain data for common minor species with large gas amounts in the absorption cell (such as CH/sub 4/ and N/sub 2/O). These results can be applied in the identification of absorption features in atmospheric spectra determined over long atmospheric paths. The spectra were recorded with Fourier Transform Spectrometers which are more precise than grating spectrometers. Each molecule spectrum was plotted on two scales: a condensed scale covering the range from 75 to 300/cm in one frame, and an expanded view covering 20 or 10/cm per frame. Each plot contains the name of the molecule, chemical formula, the gas pressure, cell length, and estimated resolution of the spectrum.

Book High Resolution Infrared Spectroscopy of Carbon Dioxide and Nitrous Oxide at Elevated Temperatures

Download or read book High Resolution Infrared Spectroscopy of Carbon Dioxide and Nitrous Oxide at Elevated Temperatures written by Mark P. Esplin and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although both Carbon Dioxide and Nitrous Oxide are minor constituents of the terrestrial atmosphere, they play leading roles in several current atmospheric problems. Both CO2 and N2O are greenhouse gases, and while it is known that the atmospheric concentrations of both gases is increasing, the impact of these trends on global temperature is not yet adequately understood. In addition to being a greenhouse gas, N2O plays an indirect part in ozone chemistry. Heating a molecule makes possible the observations of molecular transitions originating from highly excited rotation-vibration states. Heating a molecule makes possible the observations of molecular transitions originating from highly excited rotation-vibration states. These observations can then be used to characterize the shape of the molecular potential function at increasing distances from the minimum of the potential function. The infrared spectra of linear molecules like CO2 and N2O are composed of vibration bands made up of a number of nearly equally spaced rotation lines. A Fourier Spectrometer is ideally suited to the study of high temperature gases since it meets both of these needs by providing high resolution over a wide spectral region.

Book Measurement of Climate relevant Trace Gases Via Infrared Spectroscopy

Download or read book Measurement of Climate relevant Trace Gases Via Infrared Spectroscopy written by Marc Christoph Geibel and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work introduces a new fully automated FTIR system for ground-based total column measurements of atmospheric greenhouse gases. It is part of the Total Carbon Column Observation Network (TCCON), which has the main role to provide data for calibration and validation of satellite based measurements of greenhouse gases. This work describes the development of the system in three parts: design and setup, calibration, and testing. Chapter 2 describes the principal components and the design concept of the system. The focus lies on reliability and low maintenance effort to facilitate operation at remote sites. This is realized through the interaction of independent subsystems that are kept as simple as possible. Critical components are redundant as much as possible. To monitor the instrument's stability, the instrumental line shape of the FTIR is determined from HCl cell measurements. These measurements show that during a period of six months this ILS changes only slightly. From these results one can expect that -once aligned- the instrument will be very stable over long time periods. During the installation phase at Jena, Germany, the instrument measured columnaveraged XCO2 , XCO and XCH4 . Compared to ground-based in-situ CO2 VMR measurements, the FTIR total column XCO2 show an expected offset in the morning which mostly disappeared with the breakup of the nighttime planetary boundary layer. This effect demonstrates the reduced sensitivity of XCO2 measurements to mixing processes in the planetary boundary layer and confirms results of model simulations. Otherwise, the XCO2 measurements show a distinct diurnal cycle...

Book High Resolution Spectroscopic Study of Atmospheric Trace Gases with Climate Research Application

Download or read book High Resolution Spectroscopic Study of Atmospheric Trace Gases with Climate Research Application written by Robab Hashemi and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The presented research was conducted to collect, and analyze the laboratory spectroscopic data together with theoretical calculations of the line shape parameters for the HITRAN (High Resolution Transmission) molecular spectroscopic database. The most updated version of this database is HITRAN2016 \cite{HITRAN16}, and this research has contributed to this database by adding improved laboratory results to it. There is a demand for accurate retrieval of concentration values for carbon dioxide and methane (with accuracy better than 0.3 percent) which requires accurate line shape parameters. These line shape parameters are invaluable for modelling and interpreting spectra of Earth and planetary atmospheres. It is necessary to measure advanced line shape parameters such as the speed-dependence (to explain the impact of the speed of colliding molecules) and line mixing (where there is interference of neighbouring transitions) for all the transitions in the databases. The molecules of interest for the present research are atmospheric trace gases; acetylene (C$_2$H$_2$), methane (CH$_4$) and carbon monoxide (CO). For C$_2$H$_2$, the goal is to determine the fundamental Boltzmann constant based on a line shape analysis of $\nu_1+\nu_3$ band recorded using a tunable diode laser. The next focus of the thesis is the examination of different line profiles on the absorption spectra of the CO-CO$_2$ in the $2-0$ band and CH$_4$-air in 2.3 $\mu m$. A standard multispectrum non-linear least squares fitting technique is used to measure line width and line shift coefficients, and their temperature dependencies considering the effect of speed dependence and line mixing.

Book Monitoring of Gaseous Pollutants by Tunable Diode Lasers

Download or read book Monitoring of Gaseous Pollutants by Tunable Diode Lasers written by R. Grisar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By now it has been nearly twenty years since the pioneering studies at the MIT-Lincoln Laboratories, Lexington, USA, demonstrated the unique capabilities of lead salt tunable diode lasers (TDL) for infrared absorption spectroscopy. The progress in the use of TDL instrumentation for a wide variety of scientific applications was described by a great number of papers since, however, comparatively few meetings were specifically devoted to this subject. In 1980 the conference on "High Resolution Infrared Spectroscopy Applications and Developments" at the National Bureau of Standards in Gaithersburg, USA, reviewed the state of the art of tunable diode lasers together with Fourier Transform Spectroscopy and other laser spectroscopic techniques. Three years later in 1983 the SPIE Conference in San Diego, USA, dedicated one meeting to "Tunable Diode Laser Development and Spectroscopy" Applications. It appeared appropriate after a further interval of three years to organize another meeting about this quickly advancing field. In November of 1986 an International Symposium on "Monitoring of Gaseous Pollutants by Tunable Diode Lasers" was organized by and held at the Fraunhofer-Insti tut fuer Physikalische Messtechnik in Freiburg, FRG. The main emphasis of this conference was put on the applications of TDL techniques to the solution of problems of environmental relevance : The measurement of atmospheric trace gases and the monitoring of exhaust gases from automobile and power plant stack emitters. The state of diode laser development and application of TDL instruments to scientific molecular spectroscopy were not directly subjects of the meeting.

Book Assessment of Climate Change over the Indian Region

Download or read book Assessment of Climate Change over the Indian Region written by R. Krishnan and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-06-12 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book discusses the impact of human-induced global climate change on the regional climate and monsoons of the Indian subcontinent, adjoining Indian Ocean and the Himalayas. It documents the regional climate change projections based on the climate models used in the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) and climate change modeling studies using the IITM Earth System Model (ESM) and CORDEX South Asia datasets. The IPCC assessment reports, published every 6–7 years, constitute important reference materials for major policy decisions on climate change, adaptation, and mitigation. While the IPCC assessment reports largely provide a global perspective on climate change, the focus on regional climate change aspects is considerably limited. The effects of climate change over the Indian subcontinent involve complex physical processes on different space and time scales, especially given that the mean climate of this region is generally shaped by the Indian monsoon and the unique high-elevation geographical features such as the Himalayas, the Western Ghats, the Tibetan Plateau and the adjoining Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea, and Bay of Bengal. This book also presents policy relevant information based on robust scientific analysis and assessments of the observed and projected future climate change over the Indian region.
