This book was released on 2016-07-22 with total page 586 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides a step-by-step approach to statistical procedures to analyze data and conduct research, with detailed sections in each chapter explaining SPSS® and Excel® applications This book identifies connections between statistical applications and research design using cases, examples, and discussion of specific topics from the social and health sciences. Researched and class-tested to ensure an accessible presentation, the book combines clear, step-by-step explanations for both the novice and professional alike to understand the fundamental statistical practices for organizing, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from research data in their field. The book begins with an introduction to descriptive and inferential statistics and then acquaints readers with important features of statistical applications (SPSS and Excel) that support statistical analysis and decision making. Subsequent chapters treat the procedures commonly employed when working with data across various fields of social science research. Individual chapters are devoted to specific statistical procedures, each ending with lab application exercises that pose research questions, examine the questions through their application in SPSS and Excel, and conclude with a brief research report that outlines key findings drawn from the results. Real-world examples and data from social and health sciences research are used throughout the book, allowing readers to reinforce their comprehension of the material. Using Statistics in the Social and Health Sciences with SPSS® and Excel® includes: Use of straightforward procedures and examples that help students focus on understanding of analysis and interpretation of findings Inclusion of a data lab section in each chapter that provides relevant, clear examples Introduction to advanced statistical procedures in chapter sections (e.g., regression diagnostics) and separate chapters (e.g., multiple linear regression) for greater relevance to real-world research needs Emphasizing applied statistical analyses, this book can serve as the primary text in undergraduate and graduate university courses within departments of sociology, psychology, urban studies, health sciences, and public health, as well as other related departments. It will also be useful to statistics practitioners through extended sections using SPSS® and Excel® for analyzing data.

Book Manual of Standard Operating Procedures for Selected Chemical Residue and Contaminant Analysis

Download or read book Manual of Standard Operating Procedures for Selected Chemical Residue and Contaminant Analysis written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2021-09-15 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Food safety is an important global public health and trade matter, with chemical hazards occupying centre stage due to associated acute and chronic health outcomes. There is also an increasing need to address antimicrobial resistance concerns. While food remains a major vehicle for exposure to these hazards, related matrices cannot be ignored. Animal feed for instance may contain drug or pesticide residues as well as mycotoxins that could carry-over to food either as parent compounds or their metabolites of toxicological relevance. Contaminated water is also another medium of potential exposure to food hazards. A concerted effort is required to address the need for a safe food supply and one critical stakeholder is the testing laboratory. While this requires trained and capable analysts as well as reliable instrumentation, analytical methods are a major need. Development and validation – to ensure fitness of purpose – and availability of these methods is a necessity. This manual, consisting of several Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), presents another opportunity for laboratories to address gaps in analytical methods and/or expand their options. The manual contains techniques for analyzing certain mycotoxins such as aflatoxins, fumonisin and ochratoxin in matrices that include milk, edible vegetable oil and animal feed etc. A range of veterinary drug residues including permitted and prohibited substances in animal matrices including fish, are also addressed. Several pesticide residues in cereals, fruits and vegetables are also covered. A couple of methods for analysis of selected metals are also presented.

Book Fingerprint Analysis Laboratory Workbook Second Edition

Download or read book Fingerprint Analysis Laboratory Workbook Second Edition written by Hillary Moses Daluz and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-26 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fingerprint collection and analysis may be performed as part of many jobs, including crime scene technician, latent print examiner, criminalist, and lab supervisor. Regardless of one’s specific background or role in the process, a knowledge of scientific practices is critical in handling and analyzing fingerprint evidence. The best way to understand the principles and concepts of any science learned in a classroom is to perform experiments. The exercises in Fingerprint Analysis Laboratory Workbook, Second Edition address all aspects of fingerprint theory, investigation, processing, comparisons, and research. Designed specifically to parallel the Fundamentals of Fingerprint Analysis, Second Edition textbook, the laboratory exercises correspond with the textbook chapters, with exercise in the lab chapter putting into practice the concepts covered in the text chapter. Each lab follows the same format, beginning with the objectives of the experiment and providing the background information necessary to perform the experiment. This is followed by a list of required materials, the lab exercises, and post-lab questions for students to test what they’ve learned. Many of the laboratory exercises may be completed either at home or in a laboratory setting. Exercises and photographs enhance the text, making it an ideal hands-on learning tool. New techniques and current practices added to the primary textbook have been included in this companion laboratory workbook to cover the latest in real-world application of fingerprint analysis science to practice.
