II s'agit du lieu d'une imagination dereglee, malsaine, ou regnent les pieges d'un langage vain, par lequel des esprits qui se pretendent savants seduisent, egarent, en croyant et en faisant croire qu'un objet reel ou possible correspond aux mots dont ils se servent. On n'est pas delivre de ce qu'on nie: Ie monde de Descartes sera un monde feint, l'imagination va constituer Ie centre de la pensee de Hume et se confondre chez lui avec la raison. Les monades seront, de l'aveu de Leibniz, des fictions commodes, et Kant fera de la force d'i magination la charniere entre l'intuition et Ie concept.

Cette ubiquité, loin d’être simplement une mode, nous oblige à repenser sémiotiquement la fonction et le fonctionnement de la musique. Les essais composant Sémiotique et vécu musical montrent dans quelle direction se dirigent les recherches de nos jours. L’analyse de l’expérience musicale, par exemple, détermine la réception affective, peut provoquer l’ébranlement intérieur, transformer le temps vécu, changer et déterminer les structures de l’expérience ainsi que l’expérientialité. L’expérience musicale est profondément liée à l’incarnation et à la corporalité. Elle peut redéfinir l’horizon de compréhension, moduler les attentes, déterminer et délimiter les contenus phénoménaux. Elle est fondamentalement conditionnée par l’interaction physique avec un instrument ou encore modelée par le studio d’enregistrement. L’intelligence artificielle et l’usage de robots dans des spectacles commencent à remettre en cause nos conceptions de l’expérience musicale. Ces nouvelles perspectives développées en sémiotique s’ouvrent nécessairement et impérativement aux sciences cognitives, aux nouvelles approches de la musicologie, à la transdisciplinarité et au transmédial. Le caractère innovant du présent ouvrage qui touche la théorie, la méthodologie et l’empirisme, témoigne de la vivacité, de l’inventivité et du dynamisme qui caractérisent la sémiotique toujours jeune, curieuse et surprenante. Book excerpt: In his lifetime, the opera composer Fromental Halévy was considered the leader of the French school; his admirers included Wagner, Berlioz, and later Mahler. Today, he is chiefly remembered for his grand tragic opera La Juive (1835). Halévy, a native of Paris, was active when the French capital was at the centre of the operatic world. His 30 operas worked within established genres of grand opéra and opéra-comique, and many of them attained considerable popularity across Europe and the wider world (such as La Reine de Chypre 1841, Charles VI 1843, Les Mousquetaires de la reine 1846, and Le Val d’Andorre 1848). Although acclaimed in their day, most have not been staged for decades. This study throws light on this shadowy figure, looking at his life, contemporary opinion about him, and, most importantly, his operas. Each one is examined in terms of its origin, libretto, musical features, and place in the vibrant critical journalism of mid-19th century France. The book provides musical examples and something of the rich iconography that accompanied the creation of his works.

He studied at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich and at Stanford University in Palo Alto. He worked mostly in the semiconductor testing equipment fi eld and sold US Equipment from Russia to Tokyo. Early on he became very interested in Opera and developed his knowledge in singing from the reissues by Guy Dumazert. He currently maintains a comprehensive website on tenors (historicaltenors.com) and a YouTube channel on Historical tenors. Although his interest on Irish-French tenor John O`Sullivan dates from his early days, he fi nally started researching the tenor`s career in the early 90s after meeting O'Sullivan's children: Jacques, Colette and Raymonde. After much work contacting the different libraries all over the world, with the Paris and Marseilles libraries being the most diffi cult to work with, he fi nally started writing the O`Sullivan biography in 2007. It is now published. He only regrets that Jacques O'Sullivan, the tenor`s son, did not live to witness the publication.
