Book Academic Work From A Dyslexic Undergraduate

Download or read book Academic Work From A Dyslexic Undergraduate written by Pierce Lohman and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-04-28 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What makes this book special is the fact that, even though being diagnosed with Dyslexia.Overall, you will notice that the papers in the book have many grammatical and English errors in it. Additionally, it may sometimes even seem very confusing the flow of logic written down in this book. However, It is not meant on purpose. On the contrary, it is a means to demonstrate the hardship that a Dyslexic has in an academic environment, even with the vast support that he/she can receive. I invite you to keep in mind that those errors, which may seem evident to you, are, in fact, impossible for me to find on my own. As such, fundamentally, the papers are an attempt to share with the world the fundamental meaning of Dyslexia, which is not subject to level of intelligence, but beyond the control of individuals.

Book excerpt: Dudley attempts to impose a pattern on the entire history of human civilization. He shows how the major transformations in the character of social life have been determined by eight significant innovations: four new ways of dealing with information - writing, printing, mass media and integrated circuits; and four new ways of organizing the applications of violence - metal weapons, artillery, steam transport and heavy cavalry. Military and informational technologies are so crucial because they are instrumental in holding states together, while innovation in itself tends to produce new economies of scale.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the novel, V oyages el avantures de] aques Masse, caused some thing of a stir during the first half of the eighteenth century, its author, Simon Tyssot de Patot (1655-1738), remained largely unknown in his lifetime, and it is only in this century that he has been recognized as one of the countless soldiers in the vast army of philosophes that assaulted the bastions of religious, political and sodallife in Europe of the late seven 1 teenth and early eighteenth centuries. Tyssot was a Huguenot who lived most of his life in Holland where he pursued a career as professor of mathematics in the sodal and cultural 1 Tyssot and his work seem to have been first brought to the attention of modem writers by the German critics during their investigation of the type of desert island or robinsonade literature that preceded and followed Defoe's Robinson Crusoe. The earliest reference I have found occurs in A. Kippenberg, Robinson in Deutschland bis zur Insel Felsenburg (1713-43), Hanover, 1892, pp. 66-67. Tyssot's name and work appear to have been first linked with the development of socialism in A. Lichtenberger, Le Socialisme au XVIIIe siecle, Paris, 1895, p. 44. Tyssot's Voyages et avantures de]aques Masse was discussed for its literary merits in A. LeBreton, Le Roman au dix huitieme siecle, Paris, 1898. LeBreton did not know that Tyssot was the author.

Book Imagining Global Amsterdam

Download or read book Imagining Global Amsterdam written by Marco de Waard and published by Amsterdam University Press. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Generation

  • Author : Matthew Cobb
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing USA
  • Release : 2008-12-08
  • ISBN : 1608190013
  • Pages : 354 pages

Download or read book Generation written by Matthew Cobb and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2008-12-08 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Generation is the story of the exciting, largely forgotten decade during the seventeenth century when a group of young scientists-Jan Swammerdam, the son of a Protestant apothecary, Nils Stensen (also known as Steno), a Danish anatomist who first discovered the human tear duct, Reinier de Graaf, the attractive and brilliant son of a rich and successful Catholic architect, and Antoni Leeuwenhoek, a self-taught draper-dared to challenge thousands of years of orthodox thinking about where life comes from. By meticulous experimentation, dissection, and observation with the newly invented microscope, they showed that like breeds like, that all animals come from an egg, that there is no such thing as spontaneous generation, and that there are millions of tiny, wriggling "eels" in semen. However, their ultimate inability to fully understand the evidence that was in front of them led to a fatal mistake. As a result, the final leap in describing the process of reproduction-which would ultimately give birth to the science of genetics-took nearly two centuries for humanity to achieve. Including previously untranslated documents, Generation interweaves the personal stories of these scientists against a backdrop of the Dutch "Golden Age." It is a riveting account of the audacious men who swept away old certainties and provided the foundation for much of our current understanding of the living world.
