Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With literature, music constituted the most important activity of poet and playwright Federico Garcia Lorca's life. The two arts were closely related to each other throughout his career. As a child, Lorca imbibed traditional Andalusian songs from the lips of the family maids, whom he would remember with affection years later. At a very early age he began to study piano, and during his adolescence, music and poetry competed for primacy among his interests. His first book was dedicated to his music teacher, who instilled in him a love for the world of art and creation. In part I of this study, Edward F. Stanton examines Lorca's theoretical and practical approach to cante jondo, the traditional music of Andalusia, as seen in his lectures on the subject and in the 1922 concurso. In part II, he searches for direct and—far more important—indirect echoes of this music in his work. Part III explores the mythic quality of Lorca's art in relation to cante jondo. Throughout, Stanton illuminates a new dimension of the poet's work.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Sanctuary Everywhere, Barbara Andrea Sostaita reimagines practices of sanctuary along the U.S.-Mexico border in order to explore the possibilities for radical fugitivity in the face of militarized border enforcement. After the 2016 presidential election, churches, universities, cities, and even states began declaring themselves sanctuaries. Sostaita proposes that these calls for expanded sanctuary are insufficient when dealing with the everyday workings of immigration enforcement. Through fieldwork in migrant clinics, shelters, and the Sonoran Desert, Sostaita demonstrates that, as a sacred practice, sanctuary cannot be fixed in any one destination or mandate. She turns to those working to create sanctuary on the move, from a deported nurse offering medical care on the border to incarcerated migrant women denying rules on touch in detention facilities to collectives set up to honor those who died crossing the border. Understanding sanctuary to be a set of fugitive practices that escapes the everyday, Sostaita shows us how, in the wake of extreme violence and loss, migrants create sanctuaries of their own to care for the living and the dead.

As it turns out, no.NAILED sheds light on ten beloved Christian myths, and, with evidence gathered from historians across the theological spectrum, shows how they point to a Jesus Christ created solely through allegorical alchemy of hope and imagination; a messiah transformed from a purely literary, theological construct into the familiar figure of Jesus ' in short, a purely mythic Christ.

Book The Seven Faces of God

Download or read book The Seven Faces of God written by Tumba Kanyinda and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2007-11 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Man created in God's image is much like his Creator, he is very relational. The inability of man to interact with God affects him in 7 other fundamental relationships in his life. In this book, the author has presented seven needful relationships which, if attained, will bring a complete fulfillment in the soul of every individual. Without any fulfillment in his soul, man will cling to any thing that brings him a temporary relief, thus the source of many frustrations. The writer is trying to show his readers that God has a perfect spot in the heart of each man called, "the secret place." The author takes his readers through a simplistic approach on how to relate to God in 7 relational dimensions, and challenge them to translate the result in their personal lives with others. Apostle Tumba J Kanyinda was born January 3, 1962 in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo. He came to USA twenty years ago, and served in the US Army for 11 years. He is married to Martine for 15 years, has one boy and two girls. He began his ministries 15 years ago while he was stationed in Wiesbaden Germany. He is a prolific Bible teacher, a preacher and a father to pastors and ministers in three continents. He was confirmed as an Apostle in 2003. As a builder, he is the founder and senior pastor of Tampa Harvest Church in Florida. He is also the President of Christ Global Ministries, a network of churches stretching from Canada, USA, Europe and Africa.

Book The Dead Tell Tales

  • Pages : 208 pages

Download or read book The Dead Tell Tales written by Maria Cecilia Lozada and published by Cotsen Institute of Archaeology Press. This book was released on 2013-12-31 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Honoring Jane Buikstra's pioneering work in the development of bioarchaeological research, the essays in this volume stem from a symposium held at the annual meeting of the Society for American Archaeology. Multiple generations of Buikstra's former doctoral students and other colleagues gathered to discuss the impact of her mentorship. The essays are remarkable for their breadth, in terms of both the topics discussed and the geographical range they cover. The contributions highlight the dynamism of bioarchaeology, which owes so much to the strong foundations laid down over the last few decades. The volume documents the degree to which bioarchaeological approaches have become normalized and integrated into anthropological research: bioarchaeology has moved out of the appendix and into the interpretation of archaeological data. New perspectives have emerged, partly in response to theoretical changes within anthropology, but also as a result of the engagement of the broader discipline with bioarchaeology.

Book Latin America s Democratic Crusade

Download or read book Latin America s Democratic Crusade written by Allen Wells and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2023-09-26 with total page 732 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By emphasizing Latin American reformers’ decades-long struggle to defeat authoritarianism, this transnational history challenges the timeworn Cold War paradigm and recasts the region’s political evolution Scholars persist in framing the Cold War as a battle between left and right, one in which the Global South is cast as either witting or unwitting proxies of Washington and Moscow. What if the era is told from the perspective of the many who preferred reform to revolution? Scholars have routinely neglected, dismissed, or caricatured moderate politicians. In this book, Allen Wells argues that until the Cuban Revolution, the struggle was not between capitalism and communism—that was Washington’s abiding preoccupation—but between democracy and dictatorship. Beginning in the 1920s, the fight against authoritarianism was contested on multiple fronts—political, ideological, and cultural—taking on the dimensions of a political crusade. Convinced that despots represented an existential threat, reformers declared that no civilian government was safe until the cancer of dictatorship was excised from the hemisphere. Dictators retaliated, often with deadly results, exporting strategies that had been honed at home to guarantee their political survival. Grafted onto this war without borders was a belated Cold War, with all its political convulsions, the aftershocks of which are still felt today.

Book The Holy Man s Manifesto

Download or read book The Holy Man s Manifesto written by Dr. Tumba Kanyinda and published by Global Influence. This book was released on 2015-01-19 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Holy Man’s Manifesto This book is the product of many Pastors’ Meetings, Men’s Meetings and conferences in various places during a period of time. The Holy Man’s Manifesto is an attempt to help men of God from every walk of life accept who they are and take an engaging role of being leasers of their homes, churches and communities by using the tools in this book. Holiness is not a concept or a good idea from God but His ideal and only way of life. Every city is the reflection of the men who live in it. Holy men are accountable and responsible for the condition of their city. Our churches and communities do not need only men, but holy men who fear God and have, not just the gut, but the Spirit to represent Him well on every layer of our society, before the Light goes completely out in every major city. The time to be holy is now or never.
