Download or read book Interpretando Ant gona written by Laura Llevadot (ed.) and published by Editorial UOC. This book was released on 2016-05-30 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book A Narrative Biography of Horacio Quiroga the Lone Anarchist written by Wilson Alves-Bezerra and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2023-10-16 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a unique and definitive biography in English of the Uruguayan-Argentinian short story writer Horacio Quiroga (1878-1937), known as the Latin-American Poe. Written in amusing prose and with an academic background, which can be an important reference for the public in general as well as to Latin American literature researchers all over the world, it is an up-to-date, narrative biography by a Brazilian writer and researcher who has dedicated the last twenty years to Quiroga’s translation and research. The research uses several unknown or lesser-known documents as well as newspapers and magazines from the beginning of the 20th century, found in libraries and archives in Argentina, Brazil, Germany, and Uruguay. The book is written against a contemporary background, and focusses on the humanization of Quiroga and the participation of, until now, maginalized women in his personal and public life, such as Alfonsina Storni and Norah Lange, allowing the construction of an image which is less monumental and more complex in its contradictions.
Download or read book Equestrian Rebels written by Roberto Cantú and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2016-05-11 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mariano Azuela (Mexico, 1873–1952) was a medical doctor by profession, recipient of Mexico’s Premio Nacional de Literatura (1949), a distinguished member of El Colegio Nacional and, by mid-century, one of Mexico’s leading novelists and literary critics. The author of novels, novellas, plays, biographies, and literary criticism, Azuela served as field doctor under Francisco Villa during the Mexican Revolution and, after Villa’s military defeats in 1915, published Los de abajo (The Underdogs, 1915) while in exile in El Paso, Texas. This book of essays commemorates the first centenary of Los de abajo, and traces its impact on twentieth-century autobiographies, memoirs and, more specifically, on the Novel of the Mexican Revolution. Equestrian Rebels: Critical Perspectives on Mariano Azuela and the Novel of the Mexican Revolution includes a full-length introduction and nineteen essays by leading international scholars who study Azuela and other novelists of the Mexican Revolution – such as Martín Luis Guzmán, Nellie Campobello and, among others, José Rubén Romero – from current, yet contrasting and innovative theoretical perspectives. Especially written for this volume, these critical essays are grouped into five sections that separately probe and analyze Azuela’s realism and contemporary affinities with photography; Azuela’s literary criticism; centennial studies on Los de abajo; critical approaches to other novels by Azuela; three independent analyses of Nellie Campobello’s Cartucho (1931); and a concluding section on literary representations of Mexican colonialism and revolution in the narratives of Juan Rulfo (El llano en llamas), Carlos Fuentes (Gringo viejo), and David Toscana (El último lector). This book will be of importance to scholars, teachers, students, and the general reader interested in topics related to the literary, cultural, and political forces and conflicts that led to the transformation of Mexico into a modern nation.

Download or read book Three Roses and a Carnation written by Elcor Aragundi and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-02-05 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elcor Vincent Aragundi lived his career as a professional racing jockey, but as a native from Ecuador born in Quito, he was first inspired with poetry by his mother when he was still a boy. Between then and the moment he had grown, he began to write poetry in Spanish when he was still in school. He continued to write through the years even after he came to the United States back in March of 1954. Not knowing a word of English when he stepped off the plane in Florida, he ended up getting lost at a bus stop to eat. He returned unable to match the bus he was on with that of the number he held. The bus driver had unknowingly left without him. It took two hours before they could find someone that would translate. English has always been a huge struggle for him, though he desperately wanted to learn. It at times would leave him frustrated from the defied opportunities from his inability to communicate and adapt into the language. That was then; now a proud American citizen celebrating his fifty-fifth year in the United States, he is a renowned poet with trophies, medals, and merits awarded to him for his work, his passion, and his art. Recognized by the International Society of Poets in Owings Mills, Maryland, “A Flight in the Night” was published back in 2002 by the International Library of Poetry. He has been writing in English now for twenty-five years. With over a hundred poems written, half of them reside in Spanish, and the other half in English. His work is not only a milestone but an inspiration of the heart that proves yet that nothing can stand in the way of his love for poetry.

Download or read book Vida de Ignacio Agramonte written by Juan José Expósito Casasús and published by Linkgua. This book was released on 2019-03-01 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Justice through Transitions written by Baoumi, Hussein and published by Djusticia. This book was released on 2018-07-01 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does justice mean in times of transition? What kinds of possibilities and dissapointments emerge from processes of seeking justice through transition? How might we understand these processes through narrative? In August 2015, a group of Global South human rights activists and researchers gathered in Colombia for a workshop organized around the theme of transitional justice. This book, the third in a series, is the result of the discussions performed in that encounter. The chapters in this volume illustrate many complexities of transitional justice processes from the perspective of young human rights advocates involved in these struggles, many with their own complicated personal connections to the search for justice. These advocates hail from countries that have divergent relationships with the notion of transitional justice, from places deeply embedded in its norms and processes, such as Argentina and Colombia, to countries undergoing various kinds of transitions on very different terms, such as Turkey and Mexico. All of the chapters, however, write the messiness of seeking justice through transitions, spanning from the personal and intimate to the national and global. Together, these chapters beautifully illustrate both the pain and the political possibilities that come from the inability to leave history in the past, as well as the creativity of individual and collective efforts to seek justice through transitions. They also demonstrate the beauty of speaking, working, and writing justice from the hear.
