Book excerpt: Introduction : les tentatives de suicide semblent être plus fréquentes qu'auparavant chez les adolescents. Des troubles psychiatriques sont retrouvés chez près de 90 % des adolescents qui se sont suicidés. Une meilleure connaissance épidémiologique et étiologique semble indispensable à la prévention des comportements suicidaires des adolescents. L'objectif principal de l'étude est de décrire le nombre de troubles psychiatriques comorbide des conduites suicidaires selon les critères du DSM-V. L'objectif secondaire est d'améliorer la prévention du suicide. Matériels et méthodes : nous proposons une étude de cohorte observationnelle sur une durée de six mois après inclusion et basée sur le protocole déjà établi et effectué « Bipolarité-Suicide » financé par la Fondation de France. On était inclus les adolescents de 11 à 18 ans pris en charge au CMPEA de Hyères ou hospitalisés à la Villa Nova au décours d'une tentative de suicide ou d'idées suicidaires avec planification. Le critère de non-inclusion était le refus ou l'impossibilité de réaliser la K-SADS avec le sujet et/ou les parents. Une évaluation de l'état psychique du patient a été réalisé avec le recueil des données sociodémographiques, des antécédents personnels et familiaux. La passation de la Mini-kid, de la K-SADS-PL, du RUD et de la MADRS a été faite dans un second temps. Les patients ont été répartis en trois groupes en fonction du nombre de passage à l'acte suicidaire. Les facteurs de risques sont évalués dans les trois groupes. Le critère de jugement principal de l'étude est le taux de récidive. Résultats : de novembre 2018 à novembre 2019, nous avons inclus 17 patients, dont 3 ont été perdu de vue, exclusivement des filles de 13 à 17 ans. La K-SADS-PL a montré des résultats en faveur de trouble de l'humeur : 28.6 % d'épisode dépressif majeur, 14.3 % de dysthymie et 14.3 % de trouble de l'humeur. La prévalence du trouble schizo-affectif était aussi significatif avec 21.4 % de cas. Discussion : dans notre étude, un trouble psychiatrique a été diagnostiqué dans 92.8% des cas. La récidive suicidaire était fortement représentée avec un taux de 35.7 % pour des taux de 20 à 30 % dans la littérature. La moyenne entre deux passages à l'acte était d'environ quatre mois et demi. La faible proportion de patient ne permet pas de faire des statistiques concernant l'épidémiologie et les étiologies des adolescents suicidaires. Les données étaient assez représentatives des statistiques de la littérature internationale. L'amélioration des procédures diagnostiques notamment par des évaluations standardisées et des traitements est indispensable. L'essor des nouvelles technologies présente un intérêt particulier chez cette génération « connectées ».

Book excerpt: The Violence of Modernity turns to Charles Baudelaire, one of the most canonical figures of literary modernism, in order to reclaim an aesthetic legacy for ethical inquiry and historical critique. Works of modern literature are commonly theorized as symptomatic responses to the trauma of history. In a climate that tends to privilege crisis over critique, Debarati Sanyal argues that it is urgent to rethink literary experience in terms that recall its contestatory potential. Examining Baudelaire's poems afresh, she shifts the focus of critical attention toward an account of modernism as an active engagement with violence, specifically the violence of history in nineteenth-century France. Sanyal analyzes a literary current that uses the traditional hallmarks of modernism—irony, intertextuality, self-reflexivity, and formalism—to challenge the historical violence of modernity. Baudelaire and the committed ironists writing in his wake teach us how to read and resist the violence of history, and thereby to challenge the melancholy tenor of our contemporary "wound culture." In a series of provocative readings, Sanyal presents Baudelaire's poetry as an aesthetic form that contests historical violence through rhetorical strategies of complicity, counterviolence, and critique. The book develops a new account of Baudelaire's significance as a modernist by dislodging him both from his traditional status as a practitioner of "art for art's sake" and from his more recent incarnation as the poet of trauma. Following her extended analysis of Baudelaire's poetry, Sanyal in later chapters considers a number of authors influenced by his strategies—including Rachilde, Virginie Despentes, Albert Camus, and Jean-Paul Sartre—to examine the relevance of their interventions for our current climate of trauma and terror. The result is a study that underscores how Baudelaire's legacy continues to energize literary engagements with the violence of modernity.
