Book La sage femme face la mort f tale in utero

Download or read book La sage femme face la mort f tale in utero written by Jeanne Niogret and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Le v cu des sages femmes face la mort foetale in utero en salle de naissance written by Gwendoline Guilmard and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Biosocialities Genetics and the Social Sciences

Download or read book Biosocialities Genetics and the Social Sciences written by Sahra Gibbon and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007-07-20 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biosocialities, Genetics and the Social Sciences explores the social, cultural and economic transformations that result from innovations in genomic knowledge and technology. This pioneering collection uses Paul Rabinow’s concept of biosociality to chart the shifts in social relations and ideas about nature, biology and identity brought about by developments in biomedicine. Based on new empirical research, it contains chapters on genomic research into embryonic stem cell therapy, breast cancer, autism, Parkinson’s and IVF treatment, as well as on the expectations and education surrounding genomic research. It covers four main themes: novel modes of identity and identification, such as genetic citizenship the role of institutions, ranging from disease advocacy organizations and voluntary organizations to the state the production of biological knowledge, novel life-forms, and technologies the generation of wealth and commercial interests in biology. Including an afterword by Paul Rabinow and case studies on the UK, US, Canada, Germany, India and Israel, this book is key reading for students and researchers of the new genetics and the social sciences – particularly medical sociologists, medical anthropologists and those involved with science and technology studies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection employs a multi-disciplinary approach treating ancient childhood in a holistic manner according to diachronic, regional and thematic perspectives. This multi-disciplinary approach encompasses classical studies, Egyptology, ancient history and the broad spectrum of archaeology, including iconography and bioarchaeology. With a chronological range of the Bronze Age to Byzantium and regional coverage of Egypt, Greece, and Italy this is the largest survey of childhood yet undertaken for the ancient world. Within this chronological and regional framework both the social construction of childhood and the child’s life experience are explored through the key topics of the definition of childhood, daily life, religion and ritual, death, and the information provided by bioarchaeology. No other volume to date provides such a comprehensive, systematic and cross-cultural study of childhood in the ancient Mediterranean world. In particular, its focus on the identification of society-specific definitions of childhood and the incorporation of the bioarchaeological perspective makes this work a unique and innovative study. Children in Antiquity provides an invaluable and unrivalled resource for anyone working on all aspects of the lives and deaths of children in the ancient Mediterranean world.

Book Ethics in Obstetrics and Gynecology

Download or read book Ethics in Obstetrics and Gynecology written by Laurence B. McCullough and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1994 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a comprehensive and clinically practical approach to ethics in the everyday practice of obstetrics and gynecology. The topics the authors address include: contraception, abortion, selective termination of multifetal pregnancies, gynecologic cancer, in vitro fertilization, surrogacy, prenatal diagnosis, fetal therapy, cephalocentisis, prematurity, HIV infection, and court ordered cesarean delivery. The issues involved in making decisions in many of these areas are a source of conflict, and lead to crisis between the physician and patient. One of the book's strengths is its emphasis on prevention and, if prevention fails, management, of the conflicts and crises which arise in these areas of medicine. The authors develop their preventative and management strategies on the basis of a framework for bioethics in the clinical setting. This framework is rigorously established and defended. The authors argue that four virtues -- self effacement, self sacrifice, compassion, and integrity -- generate the physician's obligation to protect and promote the patient's interest. They then identify the three types of patient's interests -- social role interests, subjective interests, and deliberative interests -- and they reinterpret the ethical principles of beneficence and respect for autonomy in terms of these. The concept of the fetus as patient, the physician's obligation to third parties, and the moral standing of fathers and family members are also addressed. The implications of their argument sets the stage for the discussions of prevention and management in the remaining sections of the book. Ethics in Obstetrics and Gynecology is a unique addition to the literature in both biomedical ethics and obstetrics and gynecology. It demonstrates that ethics should be regarded as an essential part of obstetrics and gynecology, and that clinical practice is incomplete without i

Book Introduction to Clinical Examination

Download or read book Introduction to Clinical Examination written by Michael J. Ford and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most important core skills for medical students to master are history taking and clinical examination. This extensively revised, eighth edition has been written with the philosophy that the acquisition of clinical skills is most effectively undertaken at the bedside. This pocketbook should be used as a companion, to be taken onto the wards and into consulting rooms where the information is most needed. The book begins with a system of history taking followed by a new chapter on the analysis of key symptoms. The remaining chapters cover physical examination of each of the major systems. Each stage of the examination starts with a detailed, step-by-step description of the examination method complemented by relevant illustrations, diagrams and tables on the facing page. This book is intended primarily for use at the outset of clinical training; once students have achieved proficiency in the basic skills of interviewing and examining, the book should also prove useful for revision. An invaluable starter book concentrating purely on the fundamentals of performing a patient examination. Covers each body system and outlines the principles of: - taking a history - how to conduct a physical examination - specific examination points as appropriate Concentrates only on the main symptoms of disease and then the normal and abnormal physical findings. Mention of specific diseases is confined to those most commonly encountered. Compact and pocket-sized to be carried around easily. · Now in full colour double-page format · Clear simple colour line drawings covering the essentials of a clinical examination. · Published simultaneously with the Eleventh Edition of Macleod's Clinical Examination

Book The Philosophy of Social Science

Download or read book The Philosophy of Social Science written by Martin Hollis and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1994-09-01 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook by Martin Hollis offers an exceptionally clear and concise introduction to the philosophy of social science. It examines questions which give rise to fundamental philosophical issues. Are social structures better conceived of as systems of laws and forces, or as webs of meanings and practices? Is social action better viewed as rational behaviour, or as self-expression? By exploring such questions, the reader is led to reflect upon the nature of scientific method in social science. Is the aim to explain the social world after a manner worked out for the natural world, or to understand the social world from within?

Book The East in the West

Download or read book The East in the West written by Jack Goody and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1996-03-21 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The East in the West reassesses Western views of Asia. Traditionally many European historians and theorists have seen the societies of the East as 'static' or 'backward'. Jack Goody challenges these assumptions, beginning with the notion of a special Western rationality which enabled 'us' and not 'them' to modernise. He then turns to book-keeping, which several social and economic historians have seen as intrinsic to capitalism, arguing that there was in fact little difference between East and West in terms of mercantile activity. Other factors said to inhibit the East's development, such as the family and forms of labour, have also been greatly exaggerated. This Eurocentrism both fails to explain the current achievements of the East, and misunderstands Western history. The East in the West starts to redress the balance, and so marks a fundamental shift in our view of Western and Eastern history and society.
