Book Fe y cultura en nuestro tiempo

Download or read book Fe y cultura en nuestro tiempo written by Josep M. Rovira Belloso and published by Editorial SAL TERRAE. This book was released on 1988-05 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book M s all de la cultura y de la religi n written by Carlos Alberto Blanco Pérez and published by Dykinson. This book was released on 2017-01-10 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book La religi n y el origen de la cultura occidental written by Chistopher Dawson and published by Encuentro. This book was released on 2011-09-01 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Traditional Religion and Culture in a New Era

Download or read book Traditional Religion and Culture in a New Era written by Reimon Bachika and published by Transaction Publishers. This book was released on with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where will postmodern culture lead us in the twenty-first century? Will it destroy traditional cultures together with the old, established religions that were its foundation? These questions and the new concerns they evoke are explored in this important collection of original essays. Contributors challenge entrenched assumptions about what many social scientists consider irreversible cultural trends. These include cultural differentiation, emphasis on individual identity, movement toward religion as a private act rather than a community commitment, and above all, emphasis on the relativity of all knowledge and values. The volume asserts three lines of argument in opposition to these trends. The first is the teleological significance of traditional religions and archaic knowledge. History can be said to have no goal, but the same must not follow for human culture. One can conceive individually of a hundred goals to live for. However, the quality of life cannot be that diverse. Taken to the extreme, cultural particularity and philosophical nihilism are insults to the life that emerged on our planet eons ago. Second, this volume emphasizes moral concern and the importance of universal values. Ideas of human well being have been formulated from ancient times. Religious beliefs invariably contain statements of value in the form of commandments and exhortations that express fundamental goals for a quality of life. Third, the nature of religion and spirituality is discussed. Religion today has become controversial socially, and marginal sociologically. The role of religion in society is sometimes problematic or abused, but it is also underestimated and misunderstood. The authors suggest that contemporary religion might best be viewed as non-ideological spiritual culture. This, in turn, looks to a future in which religion and culture coalesce. This volume includes an international cast of scholars from Japan, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Greece, Italy, New Zealand, and Belgium. All have engaged in research outside their own countries. Taken as a whole, this volume addresses issues of interest to those in the fields of futures studies, religion, and philosophy, and in particular those concerned with human agency, personal responsibility, and public choice. Reimon Bachika is professor of the sociology of religion at Bukkyo University, Kyoto, and president of the Research Committee of Futures Studies (RC07) of the International Sociological Association. He is co-author of An Introduction into the Sociology of Religion (in Japanese, with M. Tsushima), and has written numerous articles both in Japanese and English on the sociology of religion and related problems of culture.

Book Religion Society and Culture in Colombia

Download or read book Religion Society and Culture in Colombia written by Patricia Londoño-Vega and published by Clarendon Press. This book was released on 2002-04-11 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first detailed scholarly study of culture and sociability in Colombia during the period c. 1850 and 1930. Patricia Londoño-Vega gives a vivid picture of some of the factors that reduced social distances in the province of Antioquia during this period of relative harmony and prosperity. She examines hundreds of the groups and voluntary associations which flourished at this time and which brought a growing number of Antioqueños of different social backgrounds together around religious practices and societies, the exercising of charity, a concern for education, and the pursuit of cultural progress. The book describes the crucial role played by religion and the Catholic Church, which underwent considerable growth after the turbulent period of mid-nineteenth century liberal reforms until the end of the conservative era in 1930, and traces the progress of parishes, devotional associations, religious communities, private and public religiosity, and numeros pilanthropic societies, all of which brought about the bonds between the classes. The author examines achievements in education and the emergence of a thriving gamut of literary groups, public libraries, social clubs, and other assciations created to promote public instuction, pedagogy, manners, temperance, 'cultivated' music, and moral improvement. These cultural associations strove towards the longed-for civilisation, as percieved in its prevalent Western connotations. The social intermingling brought about by all these forms of sociability did not of course abolish class distinctions, but did generate a complex and closely integrated society, with an optimistic and constructive view of itself. The description of social and cultural dynamism, set against the background of growing religiiosity, challenges the seldom-discussed assumption that religion slowed down social and cultural modernisation. Primary evidence, drawn from extensive researh in proceedings and reports by groups, associations, periodical publications, statistics, diaries and memoirs, travellers' accounts, books of etiquette, genre literature and other contemporary publications, as well as visual images, particulary photographs, document important topics which have in the past attracted little attention from scholars.

Book Conceptualizing Religion

Download or read book Conceptualizing Religion written by Saler and published by BRILL. This book was released on 1993-03-01 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How might we transform a folk category — in this case, religion — into an analytical category suitable for cross-cultural research? In addressing that question, this book critically explores various approaches to the problem of conceptualizing religion for scholarly purposes, particularly with respect to certain disciplinary interests of anthropologists. The author argues that the most plausible analytical strategy can be based on the idea of family resemblances, especially as that idea has been used and developed in contemporary prototype theory. In the solution proposed, religion is conceptualized as an affair of 'more or less' rather than a matter of 'yes or no,' and no sharp line is drawn between religion and non-religion.

Book Religion in Cultural Imaginary

Download or read book Religion in Cultural Imaginary written by Daria Pezzoli-Olgiati and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The multivalent concept of the imaginary is utilized to capture the presence and diffusion of religious references, symbols, worldviews, and narratives in various media and social spheres, including politics, economics, art, and popular culture. Used to describe the reception and transformation of religious references through time and cultures, imaginary can be defined as a shared pool of mental images and material products, of ideas, symbols, values, and practices that sustain meaning-making processes and cohesion within a collective. Situated at the intersection of sociological, political-philosophical, and cultural studies approaches to religion, this interdisciplinary study offers an intense exchange between theoretical discussions of religion in cultural imaginaries and richly researched empirical analysis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
