This book was released on 2015-05-14 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: In the 1970s and 80s Japan experienced some deep-rooted social changes which affected attitudes to health care services among both professionals and consumers alike. Health Care in Japan provides an introduction to and overview of health and medical services in Japan at that time. It describes the historical development of modern medical care; the social, political, and cultural factors which have influenced the development of the system for the provision of health and medical services. It also discusses and analyses those aspects of the health care system which are of concern to the government and assesses how the existing system of health care will meet the needs of Japanese society in the future.

Book Health Illness and Medical Care in Japan

Download or read book Health Illness and Medical Care in Japan written by Edward Norbeck and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2019-03-31 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is one of the first attempts to explore the effects of social, political, and cultural variables on the interpretation of ideas about health, illness, and medical care in a technologically rich society. In this collection of essays, five anthropologists and one political scientist demonstrate that modern medical care in Japan is not a uniform, value-free scientific endeavor, but rather a culturally shaped part of a complex pluralistic medical system that is, itself, the product of a specific historical and social tradition. The comparative study of health, illness, and medical care provides a rich source of cross-fertilization of ideas among the social sciences. This collection of essays offers new insights on and raises new questions about contemporary Japanese society, biomedicine as a cultural product, and the transformation that occurs when medical knowledge and techniques are used in a different cultural milieu.

Book excerpt: Law and Mental Health: International Perspectives, Volume 3 considers the jurisprudence and models of legislation concerning public mental health that suit the particular requirements of different cultural and geographical regions. This book is composed of five chapters and begins with the major accomplishment both for Dutch legal psychiatry and for the English language audience, followed by a survey of the civil dimensions of the forensic system. The next chapter tackles the primary variables in assessing terrorism, including the social, political, religious, and economic factors, which, coupled with highly complex variables of psychological predisposition, can give some guarded inroads with respect to the limits of the knowledge in predicting and reacting to terrorist incidents. These topics are followed by discussions on the techniques for assessment designed for the differentiated legal questions in criminal, civil, and juvenile and family law. A chapter focuses on the measured assessments of the parameters of the professional knowledge about the nature of dangerous behavior based on clinical and research investigation. The final chapter contains a precise summary of the research that is to be done on a spectrum of techniques for assessing malingering. Mental health workers, forensic experts, and policy makers will find this book invaluable.
