Download or read book Forensic Archaeology written by W. J. Mike Groen and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-04-27 with total page 615 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forensic archaeology is mostly defined as the use of archaeological methods and principles within a legal context. However, such a definition only covers one aspect of forensic archaeology and misses the full potential this discipline has to offer. This volume is unique in that it contains 57 chapters from experienced forensic archaeological practitioners working in different countries, intergovernmental organisations or NGO’s. It shows that the practice of forensic archaeology varies worldwide as a result of diverse historical, educational, legal and judicial backgrounds. The chapters in this volume will be an invaluable reference to (forensic) archaeologists, forensic anthropologists, humanitarian and human rights workers, forensic scientists, police officers, professionals working in criminal justice systems and all other individuals who are interested in the potential forensic archaeology has to offer at scenes of crime or places of incident. This volume promotes the development of forensic archaeology worldwide. In addition, it proposes an interpretative framework that is grounded in archaeological theory and methodology, integrating affiliated behavioural and forensic sciences.

Download or read book Competing Values in Archaeological Heritage written by Stuart Campbell and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-22 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Archaeological heritage legislation aims to ensure the best possible protection for the archaeological heritage, yet it remains the case that legislation can remain ineffective through other practical considerations. Some consideration may be legal or procedural, such as difficulties in enforcing legislation or in preventing crimes or damage or archaeological monuments. However other problems may be less obvious and harder to address, and require solutions which go much further than the simple application of the law. The aim of this volume is to address several issues surrounding the management of archaeological heritage comparing and contrasting which laws 'work' and which ones do not, and ignoring other issues which might effectively present the transplantation of an 'ideal system' to another country or political climate. Or the cultural attitudes which might prevent a law working in the legal system for which it was designed. The contributions are from various international jurisdictions and address a variety of subjects - from the protection of archaeological monuments to dealing with and controlling chance finds made by members of the public.

Download or read book Anuario Estad stico de Am rica Latina Y El Caribe 2012 written by United Nations and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Statistical Yearbook for Latin America and the Caribbean seeks to respond to the demands of users who require reliable and sound statistical information in order to analyse the economic, social and environmental situation of the region. This year's edition includes information available up to mid-December 2012. This edition of the Statistical Yearbook is similar in structure to the 2011 edition as no significant changes have been made in terms of content or design. The Yearbook comprises four chapters. The first covers demographic and social indicators and continues to reflect special efforts to mainstream the gender perspective in statistical information and to encompass poverty-related topics. The second chapter presents economic statistics relating to trade, the balance of payments and domestic prices, as well as national accounts. The statistical series are expressed in domestic currency and constant dollars. The third chapter provides the quantitative information available on the environment. Here, priority is given to data from international sources. The electronic version also includes the data available and compiled by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) for this chapter. Given the abundance of different, sometimes conflicting, data now accessible to researchers, special attention must be paid to the data sheets on which the source of the data, their definition and coverage are specified. This information is presented in the fourth chapter, which deals with methodology and metadata, supplementing the more specific information contained in the footnotes to each of the tables.
