Download or read book The Populist Century written by Pierre Rosanvallon and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-11-12 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Populism is an expression of anger; its appeal stems from being presented as the solution to disorder in our times. The vision of democracy, society, and the economy it offers is coherent and attractive. At a time when the words and slogans of the left have lost much of their power to inspire, Pierre Rosanvallon takes populism for what it is: the rising ideology of the twenty-first century. In The Populist Century he develops a rigorous theoretical account of populism, distinguishing five key features that make up populist political culture; he retraces its history in modern democracies from the mid-nineteenth century to the present; and he offers a well-reasoned critique of populism, outlining a robust democratic alternative. This wide-ranging and insightful account of the theory and practice of populism will be of great interest to students and scholars in politics and the social sciences and to anyone concerned with the key political questions of our time.

Download or read book Homo Sapiens Collapse or Fulfillment written by Alain de Vulpian and published by BoD - Books on Demand. This book was released on 2022-03-21 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Will Homo Sapiens be able to tame Artificial Intelligence and open the way towards a new human fulfillment? We are not living in an era that, like so many others, is merely chaotic, but in an epoch that could be a real turning point in the destiny of the human species. Homo Sapiens is not a finished product, but a work in progress, a living organism in evolution, one that has to adapt to new environments. Faced with serial challenges, social, economic, ecological and techno-scientific imbalances, our societies are losing their confidence in the future. And yet from long-time observations in the field, we can observe the discreet development of signs of a radical metamorphosis and new human fulfillment. Perhaps for the first time in its history, Homo Sapiens puts into dialogue its rational, emotional-relational, sensory and spiritual intelligences - and that changes everything.
Download or read book La Plus Belle Histoire de l intelligence written by Stanislas Dehaene and published by Robert Laffont. This book was released on 2018-10-18 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Studia Patristica written by Elizabeth A. Livingstone and published by Peeters Publishers. This book was released on 1997 with total page 628 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Papers presented at the Twelfth International Conference on Patristic Studies held in Oxford 1995 (see also Studia Patristica 29, 30, 31 and 32). The Twelfth International Conference on Patristic Studies met in Oxford from 21 to 26 August 1995. These gatherings have assembled at four-yearly intervals since 1951. At each the number of papers presented has been greater than the previous occasion, and the size of the assembly is now limited only by the capacity of the buildings available. Some 650 scholars attended the 1995 Conference, including delegates from Russia, Georgia, India, Japan, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia, as well as from North America and most countries in Europe. Papers were given in English, French, German, Italian or Spanish, and are normally printed in the language in which they were delivered. Some were fully developed lectures lasting for nearly an hour; the majority were communications of 12 minutes' duration: and a few came in between. These volumes contain 284 of the papers, including most of the lectures given in full session, viz. the Inaugural Address by Dr. H.D. Saffrey on 'Theology as a Science'; Prof. Dr. Suso Frank, 'John Cassian on John Cassian'; Prof. Dr. O. Skarsaune; 'Is Christianity Monotheistic ? Patristic Perspectives on a Jewish-Christian Debate'; and Prof. A. Louth, 'St. Maximus the Confessor: Between East and West'. Others report the finding of unpublished texts, deal with particular points, or present broad interpretations, sometimes original in character. For the first time a number of illustrations are included, reflecting the growing interest in iconography.

Download or read book Les pileptiques ne se cachent plus pour gu rir written by René Soulayrol and published by John Libbey Eurotext. This book was released on 2004 with total page 816 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Hermeneutic Rationality written by Maria Luísa Portocarrero and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2012 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of the limits of reason is by no means a privileged subject of an academic discourse. By reducing reality to what can be conceived of within the paradigms of the scientific laboratory, manipulative despotism, which positivistic notion of objectivism has established, creates in a human being a unilateral conscience of the world and of oneself; a conscience that dominates today our understanding of existence in its manifold senses of Being and the world we live in. This way of thinking, based on a powerful and skillful technique aimed at controlling human life in all its dimensions, intends to impose this limiting positivistic horizon on human beings in the name of Liberte, Egalite, and Fraternite. Hermeneutic rationality resists the claims of modern science and promotes the culture of hospitality toward the world as it shows itself in its complexity. Maria Luisa Portocarrero, Universidade de Coimbra, Portugal, Professor of Philosophy, specializing in the phenomenological hermeneutics of Hans-Georg Gadamer and Paul Ricoeur. Luis Antonio Umbelino, Universidade de Coimbra, Portugal, Professor of Philosophy and Artistic Studies. Andrzej Wiercinski, Albert-Ludwigs-Universitat Freiburg, Germany, Professor of Philosophy of Religion, specializing in Practical Philosophy/Philosophical Hermeneutics.
Download or read book The Trace Odyssey 1 written by Beatrice Galinon-Melenec and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-04-01 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether it is to look to the past in search of their origins, analyze their present activity, particularly digital, or to think about the effects of their actions on the future, 21st century humans regularly question their traces. Collective questions and technical progress offer new resources which, in turn, raise the problems of traces. In order to reveal the difficulties posed by the unanalyzed trace, this book proposes a journey through different contexts. Along the way, intellectuals (including Bateson, Barthes, Bourdieu, Derrida, Goffman, Peirce, Ricoeur, Varela, Thompson, Watsuji and Watzlawick) and trace professionals (such as police officers or computer scientists) shed light on the background to this veritable odyssey. This didactic book presents a contemporary exploration of the fundamental nature of the trace via the new French paradigm of the Ichnos-Anthropos (Homme-trace) and its corollary, the corps-trace.
