En raison des insuffisances de leurs significations et de leurs faiblesses morphologiques, les places du XXème siècle alimentent la crise de la symbolique républicaine. L’accomplissement d’une praxis phénoménologique, morphologique et sémiotique nous révèle la place du présent. Cette place vit la crise symbolique et morphologique de l’espace public. Malgré ses réserves de puissances significative et symbolique, la place ne réalise pas sa mise à jour morphologique et sémiotique. Pourtant, sa morphologie urbaine et ses significations la destinent à refonder la centralité de la ville et de ses quartiers. C’est grâce à un art d’édifier la place, générateur de qualité morphologique et d’expression symbolique, que la « place médium » républicaine du temps présent pourrait participer à la résurgence d’un espace public de qualité, intègre, au vu de sa propre essence et de l’origine de la démocratie.
