Download or read book Ni os y j venes ante las redes y pantallas written by Ma. Amor Pérez Rodríguez and published by Editorial GEDISA. This book was released on 2016-01-15 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Exploring Language Aggression against Women written by Patricia Bou-Franch and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2016-06-29 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring Language Aggression against Women presents a collection of systematic studies that delve into the critical role of language in constructing violence, creating inequality, and justifying discrimination against women. Drawing on a range of discourse analytic methods, this volume subjects to scrutiny mediated and non-mediated (re)tellings and reactions to rape and sexual assault, newspaper reports of intimate partner abuse, YouTube responses to public service advertising for abuse prevention, and verbal sexism on Twitter and in legal and parliamentary contexts. Special attention is paid to the multiple forms that verbal violence against women can take, and its pervasiveness in contemporary Western societies, precisely at a time when the need for, and usefulness of, feminism are continuously being questioned. Exploring Language Aggression against Women will be of relevance to scholars and students interested in gender, language and sexuality, discourse, media, feminism, and communication. Most articles were originally published in Journal of Language Aggression and Conflict Vol. 2:2 (2014).

Book excerpt: This is the only comparative study of its kind, investigating how women construct their roles within the public sphere and highlighting the ways in which traditional versus modern values impact on female identity in France and Spain. Which female figures are proposed for our admiration? Who proposes them and what values do they represent? This study embarks on an analysis of such cultural icons, going on to address contemporary roles and issues concerning women in the two countries. Finally, Twomey shows how these two strands of discussion inform and interact with each other. The 20th Century.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Moving beyond the "main dishes" of traditional literary works, Side Dishes offers a provocative and delicious new understanding of Latin American women's authorship and activism. The book illuminates a wealth of creative and intellectual work by Latin American women—editors, directors, cartoonists, academics, performance artists, and comedians—and explores them in light of their treatment of women's sexuality. Side Dishes considers feminist pornography and literary representations of masturbation, bisexuality, lesbianism, and sexual fantasies; the treatment of lust in stand-up comedy and science fiction; critical issues in leading feminist journals; and portrayals of sexuality in four contemporary Latin American films. Melissa A. Fitch concludes with a look at the rise of women's and gender studies programs in Latin America.

Download or read book Lesbian Realities Lesbian Fictions in Contemporary Spain written by Nancy Vosburg and published by Bucknell University Press. This book was released on 2011-03-18 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lesbian Realities/Lesbian Fictions in Contemporary Spain, edited by Nancy Vosburg and Jacky Collins, focuses exclusively on manifestations of lesbian cultures and identities in contemporary Spain. Bringing together key essays from a range of international scholars, this anthology of critical essays examines the changing cultural, sociological and political landscape of Spain at the turn of the millennium. Divided into two sections, the first contributions focus on the realities of lesbian lives and looks at how Spanish lesbian identities are constructed through language and the media. The essays in the second section analyze contemporary lesbian identities as manifested in novels and short stories published since the late 1980s by authors such as Carme Riera, Lola van Guardia, Flavia Company and Mabel GalOn. The aim of this volume is to provide a significant and coherent contribution in English to the body of knowledge within an evolving subject area that has remained relatively under-researched until recently. Throughout the anthology, the visibility of the lesbian subject in Spain, either within the media, literature, the Parliament, and even within the gay book-publishing industry, emerges as a key concept for analyzing the status of lesbians in Spanish society. All essays in our volume are original, previously unpublished works written specifically for this volume by contributors who have been involved in researching or developing lesbian cultures in Spain. Lesbian Realities/Fictions in Contemporary Spain brings knowledge into the public domain that hitherto has remained hidden, and provides access to an audience interested in social and cultural change in Spain and yet who are unable to access material in Spanish. It is a particularly invaluable resource for teachers and students of Spanish cultural studies, global sexuality, and gender studies.
