This book was released on 2020-03-11 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Am rica Latina y el Caribe written by Manuel Orozco and published by Teseo. This book was released on 2012 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. [Description in English] Latin America and the Caribbean: Development, migration and remittances Migrants are now more essentially and directly involved in various economic and social activities with their countries of origin. This is partly due to the dynamic of globalization and the new opportunities resulting from the political and economic opening of their home societies. Remittances have an effect on finances, and therefore on the economy and development, and in a competitive context they also seek to increase the availability of income through saving and spending. By increasing saving, remittances influence the ability to generate assets, and thus create possibilities for saving per se as well as investment in activities such as housing. In this sense, remittances serve as a factor that helps to increase the liquid and fixed assets of those who receive them. This publication is part of a decade-long study involving field research and project implementation that gathers and analyzes information on the way money transfers affect economies, communities and families in receiver countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. The book offers an analysis of trends in the relationship between remittances and development in the case of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as an empirical, theoretical and policy-based approach to the topic. Family remittances involve the sending of money by immigrants to their families in their country of origin as a source of income. This money is part of a global context associated with migratory processes and operates within a reality in which these transfers, and their impact on those who receive them and their countries, have become worthy of analysis.

Book Voluntary and Forced Migration in Latin America

Download or read book Voluntary and Forced Migration in Latin America written by Natalia Caicedo Camacho and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2022-09-15 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Latin America provides a compelling case for the study of migration policies and laws, with several factors – including both internal and interregional migration and refugee flows, the region’s progressive approach to the management of human mobility, and several forced displacement crises of the contemporary era – offering unique insights. Despite the region’s heterogeneous migration flows and unique immigration and refugee laws, the academic literature has thus far lacked in-depth explorations of migration policy in Latin America. Voluntary and Forced Migration in Latin America presents a comparative analysis of the migration legislation of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Peru. For each country, the collection provides a historical overview of the evolution of migration legislation, an analysis of the migration flows and types of migrant profiles, and an examination of the country’s current immigration, asylum, and nationality legislation. The primary regional and international mechanisms that facilitate a normative approach to voluntary and forced migration, as well as to migrant and refugee rights, are also thoroughly interrogated. Situating itself in the often progressive immigration policies of Latin America, Voluntary and Forced Migration in Latin America offers alternative solutions for other countries facing migration challenges in different contexts.

Book Christianities in Migration

The volume travels through worn out pathways of migration that continue to be threaded upon today, and theologically reflects on a wide range of migratory aims that result also in diverse forms of indigenization of Christianity. In light of globalization and migration, how is the evangelizing mission of Christianity to be understood and carried out? The first part of the book looks at conceptual discussions on mixed and survival migration, the link between migration and extractivism, and the specific character of transit migration. Book 21st Century Cooperation

Download or read book 21st Century Cooperation written by Antoni Estevadeordal and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-05-18 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited volume explains the importance of regional public goods (RPGs) for sustainable development and shows why they are particularly important in the context of 21st-century international relations. By presenting a new and original data set and by presenting original essays by renowned scholars, this book lays the foundation for what will become an increasingly important focus for both economic development and international relations as well as for their intersection. The volume contains four parts. The first introduces the core issues and concepts that are explored throughout the book as well as a new and original data set on RPGs. The second part further develops specific concepts important for understanding 21st-century RPGs: regional leadership, alliances, networks, and outcomes. The third examines how cooperation takes place worldwide for a range of important RPGs. Finally, the fourth part discusses how public goods are produced in specific regions, stressing that each region has a distinct context and that these contexts overlap in a decentered "multiplex" manner. Global economic cooperation will be different in the 21st century, and this volume will be of interest to students and scholars of global governance, economic development, international political economy, sustainable development, and comparative regionalism.

Book Regional Voices in the Geo Politics of Mexico and Central America 1959 2019

Download or read book Regional Voices in the Geo Politics of Mexico and Central America 1959 2019 written by Mónica Toussaint and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-03-03 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collective work published as part of a larger project titled "Mexico-Guatemala cross-border region; regional dimensions and bases for integrated development," the purpose of which is to introduce a series of issues relative to the geopolitical dimension of Mexico’s actions in Central America and its stance on conflicts in the region between 1959 and 2019. The most widely published texts up until now have been written by Mexican authors, and we have less insight into how these processes have been viewed from Central America. With that in mind, we brought together a group of specialists, each highly renowned in their own country, some of them academics and others whose accounts are worth hearing because of their participation in social and political movements that are closely bound up in this issue. The following questions guided the drafting of this book: How have Central Americans viewed Mexican policies toward their countries? What do they think of Mexico’s influence in various spheres of life in the region? Has Central America’s past view of Mexico as their Latin American "big brother" changed? What do they consider to be the most salient issues in relations between our countries? What were the strategic interests of Cuba and the United States in the region? How did these processes develop during the Cold War, and what elements began to change in the 1990s? The purpose of the chapters in this book is to answer these questions and to bring together and share knowledge and perspectives. This book will appeal to students and researchers alike interested in the politics and history of 20th-century Mexico and Central America, as well as the involvement of such states during the Cold War and thereafter.
