Download or read book Water and Land Security in Drylands written by Mohamed Ouessar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-04-25 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents recent lessons learned in the context of research and development for various dryland ecosystems, focusing on water resources management, land and vegetation cover degradation and remediation, and socioeconomic aspects, as well as integrated approaches to ensuring water and land security in view of the current and predicted climate change. As water and land are the essential bases of food production, the management of these natural resources is becoming a cornerstone for the development of dryland populations. The book gathers the peer-reviewed, revised versions of the most outstanding papers on these topics presented at the ILDAC2015 Conference in Djerba, Tunisia.

Book Digital Transformation in Financial Services

Download or read book Digital Transformation in Financial Services written by Claudio Scardovi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-09-04 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyzes the set of forces driving the global financial system toward a period of radical transformation and explores the transformational challenges that lie ahead for global and regional or local banks and other financial intermediaries. It is explained how these challenges derive from the newly emerging post-crisis structure of the market and from shadow and digital players across all banking operations. Detailed attention is focused on the impacts of digitalization on the main functions of the financial system, and particularly the banking sector. The author elaborates how an alternative model of banking will enable banks to predict, understand, navigate, and change the external ecosystem in which they compete. The five critical components of this model are data and information mastering; effective use of applied analytics; interconnectivity and “junction playing”; development of new business solutions; and trust and credibility assurance. The analysis is supported by a number of informative case studies. The book will be of interest especially to top and middle managers and employees of banks and financial institutions but also to FinTech players and their advisers and others.

Book excerpt: This prayer book was written over a two-year span. The prayers started one night when my daughter and I could not sync our time to pray together on one particular night in March 2017. While preparing for bed, the Lord said to me, "Just write a prayer and put it on Facebook". I did and the rest is history. You are now holding what it is that the Lord has done with these prayers. Each night with the exception of being away from home with no phone service, or during times of fasting, I wrote a prayer each night and posted them on Facebook. I have been told by many people along the way that they do not know how to pray. It is my prayer that this book will be a foundation for those who feel that they do not know how to pray or who simply need a prayer devotional.

Book The Impact of Sea Level Rise on Developing Countries

Download or read book The Impact of Sea Level Rise on Developing Countries written by and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2007 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sea level rise (SLR) due to climate change is a serious global threat: The scientific evidence is now overwhelming. continued growth of greenhouse gas emissions and associated global warming could well promote SLR of 1m-3m in this century, and unexpectedly rapid breakup of the Greenland and West Antarctic ice sheets might produce a 5m SLR. In this paper, we have assessed the consequences of continued SLR for 84 developing countries. Geographic Information System (GIS) software has been used to overlay the best available, spatially-disaggregated global data on critical impact elements (land, population, agriculture, urban extent, wetlands, and GDP) with the inundation zones projected for 1-5m SLR. Our results reveal that hundreds of millions of people in the developing world are likely to be displaced by SLR within this century; and accompanying economic and ecological damage will be severe for many. At the country level, results are extremely skewed, with severe impacts limited to relatively small number of countries. For these countries (e.g., Vietnam, A.R. of Egypt, and The Bahamas), however, the consequences of SLR are potentially catastrophic. For many others, including some of the largest (e.g., China), the absolute magnitudes of potential impacts are very large. At the other extreme, many developing countries experience limited impacts. Among regions, East Asia and Middle East/North Africa exhibit the greatest relative impacts. To date, there is little evidence that the international community has seriously considered the implications of SLR for population location and infrastructure planning in developing countries. We hope that the information provided in this paper will encourage immediate planning for adaptation.

Download or read book Histoire d eau written by Sandrine Simon and published by Editions L'Harmattan. This book was released on 2020-11-18 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
