Toutefois, des centaines de jeunes diplômés marocains souffrent d'un traumatisme linguistique et plus particulièrement communicationnel dont les symptômes apparaissent de manière frappante lors des entretiens d'embauche. Il s'agit dans cette recherche, d'étudier de plus près le français en général et spécialisé dans l'espace de travail avec toutes les particularités qui pourraient s'en dégager. A travers nos enquêtes, nous avons remarqué que la langue française constitue une source d'inquiètude pour les jeunes diplômés marocains et plus particulièrement les Bac+2. Ceci dit, plusieurs questions se posent avec acuité et stimule notre réflexion sociolinguistique, à savoir : quel rôle joue la langue française dans l'activité bancaire ? Quels sont les enjeux de la communication technolectale ? La langue spécialisée est-elle maîtrisée par les différents employés de la banque ? Y a-t-il des difficultés linguistiques qui peuvent surgir dans le milieu du travail ?

Book excerpt: While there is a substantial body of literature on the effects of “debt overhang” on investment in heavily-indebted countries, there is surprisingly little empirical work available on this subject. This paper tests the hypothesis that the stock of foreign debt acts as a disincentive to private investment in the specific case of the Philippines. The empirical estimates provide support for this hypothesis, particularly after 1982. The estimates indicate that a $1.3 billion debt reduction (such as the one completed through the buyback operation in early 1990) would increase investment demand by something between one half and two percentage points of GNP.

Beyond the strictly operational dimension, there is considerable ambiguity in the concepts and terminology used to discuss post-conflict peacebuilding. This ambiguity undermines efforts to agree on common understandings of how peace can be most effectively 'built', thereby impeding swift, coherent action. Accordingly, this lexicon aims to clarify and illuminate the multiple facets of post-conflict peacebuilding, by presenting its major themes and trends from an analytical perspective. Book excerpt: Tracking the relationship between the theory of press control and the realities of practicing daily press censorship prior to publication, this volume on the suppression of dissent in early modern Europe tackles a topic with many elusive and under-researched characteristics. Pre-publication censorship was common in absolutist regimes in Catholic and Protestant countries alike, but how effective it was in practice remains open to debate. The Netherlands and England, where critical content segued into outright lampoonery, were unusual for hard-wired press freedoms that arose, respectively, from a highly competitive publishing industry and highly decentralized political institutions. These nations remained extraordinary exceptions to a rule that, for example in France, did not end until the revolution of 1789. Here, the author’s European perspective provides a survey of the varying censorship regulations in European nations, as well as the shifting meanings of ‘freedom of the press’. The analysis opens up fascinating insights, afforded by careful reading of primary archival sources, into the reactions of censors confronted with manuscripts by authors seeking permission to publish. Tortarolo sets the opinions on censorship of well-known writers, including Voltaire and Montesquieu, alongside the commentary of anonymous censors, allowing us to revisit some common views of eighteenth-century history. How far did these writers, their reasoning stiffened by Enlightenment values, promote dissident views of absolutist monarchies in Europe, and what insights did governments gain from censors’ reports into the social tensions brewing under their rule?
