Le he llamado "Historia mínima de China", por respeto al editor que continua con su interesante colección de "Historia Breve de..." y porque en realidad su contenido es el mínimo que uno debería de leer para hacerse una idea de la historia y cultura de este vasto país. En un mundo cada vez más pequeño sólo la ignorancia aleja a los pueblos. Mientras los adelantos técnicos y progresos científicos hacen que la comunicación entre Oriente y Occidente sea cada vez más fácil; el bombardeo informativo al que nos somenten los medios de comunicación amenaza convertir nuestros conocimientos sobre países lejanos en cuatro o cinco conceptos mal hilvanados, retazo de algunas noticias en la prensa, titulares de telediario y portadas de publicacions sensacionalistas. Desde que las primeras noticas de China llegan a Occidente, a través de su productos, especialmente esa seda con la que tan ligada va su historia, su nombre siempre ha ido asociado al misterio, al exotismo y a la fantasia. Desde Marco Polo a Mao Zedong, todos los personajes relacionados con este país, parecen dotados de una aureola que nos presenta sus existencias como incomprensibles, maravillosas y en cierta forma, dotados de una humanidad a la que nos cuesta hacer partícipe de los atributos que nosotros mismos nos atribuimos. A lo largo de esta Historia Breve de China hemos intentado presentar al lector los hechos más significativos de ese pasado común a los habitantes de China, esforzándonos especialmente en mostrar la humanidad de los protagonistas de esta historia, descubriendo las causas que preceden a los acontecimientos con el objetivo de ayudar a entender éstos como el resultado de la acción de unos hombres, que responden de forma completamente humana ante unos estímulos determinados de las formas que les permite su cultura. Esperamos que contribuya a conocer un poco más a China y sus habitantes y con ello promueva el acercamiento entre los pueblos.
