Book LA HERENCIA DE EL ENCANTO

Download or read book LA HERENCIA DE EL ENCANTO written by RAÚL D. MONTOYA and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2013-07 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Chicana Lives and Criminal Justice

Download or read book Chicana Lives and Criminal Justice written by Juanita Díaz-Cotto and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2014-10-14 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first comprehensive study of Chicanas encountering the U.S. criminal justice system is set within the context of the international war on drugs as witnessed at street level in Chicana/o barrios. Chicana Lives and Criminal Justice uses oral history to chronicle the lives of twenty-four Chicana pintas (prisoners/former prisoners) repeatedly arrested and incarcerated for non-violent, low-level economic and drug-related crimes. It also provides the first documentation of the thirty-four-year history of Sybil Brand Institute, Los Angeles' former women's jail. In a time and place where drug war policies target people of color and their communities, drug-addicted Chicanas are caught up in an endless cycle of police abuse, arrest, and incarceration. They feel the impact of mandatory sentencing laws, failing social services and endemic poverty, violence, racism, and gender discrimination. The women in this book frankly discuss not only their jail experiences, but also their family histories, involvement with gangs, addiction to drugs, encounters with the juvenile and adult criminal justice systems, and their successful and unsuccessful attempts to recover from addiction and reconstitute fractured families. The Chicanas' stories underscore the amazing resilience and determination that have allowed many of the women to break the cycle of abuse. Díaz-Cotto also makes policy recommendations for those who come in contact with Chicanas/Latinas caught in the criminal justice system.

Book excerpt: A princess must win back her kingdom, save a prince, and restore peace in this fantasy by the #1 New York Times–bestselling author of the Splintered series. After Lyra—a princess incapable of speech or sound—is cast out of her kingdom of daylight by her wicked aunt, a witch saves her life, steals her memories, and raises her in an enchanted forest…disguised as a boy known only as Stain. Meanwhile, in Lyra’s rival kingdom, the prince of thorns and night is dying, and the only way for him to break his curse is to wed the princess of daylight—for she is his true equal. As Lyra finds her way back to her identity, an imposter princess prepares to steal her betrothed prince and her crown. To win back her kingdom, save the prince, and make peace with the land of the night, Lyra must be loud enough to be heard without a voice, and strong enough to pass a series of tests—ultimately proving she’s everything a traditional princess is not. “A decadent fantasy anchored in childhood delights with vibrantly detailed writing and brilliantly theatrical subplots.” —Kirkus Reviews “[A] reimagining of “The Princess and the Pea” . . . An emotionally complex tale of fate, inner beauty, and found family that illustrates the strength of love born from friendship.” —Publishers Weekly

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Composing with Constraints: 100 Practical Exercises in Music Composition provides an innovative approach to the instruction of the craft of music composition based on tailored exercises to help students develop their creativity. When composition is condensed to a series of logical steps, it can then be taught and learned more efficiently. With this approach in mind, Jorge Variego offers a variety of practical exercises to help student composers and instructors to create tangible work plans with high expectations and successful outcomes. Each chapter starts with a brief note on terminology and general recommendations for the instructor. The first five chapters offer a variety of exercises that range from analysis and style imitation to the use of probabilities. The chapter about pre-compositional approaches offers original techniques that a student composer can implement in order to start a new work. Based on lateral thinking, the last section of the book fosters creative connections with other disciplines such as math, visual arts, and architectural acoustics. The one hundred exercises contain a unique set of guidelines and constraints that place students in a specific compositional framework. These compositional boundaries encourage students to produce creative work within a given structure. Using the methodologies in this book, students will be able to create their own outlines for their compositions, making intelligent and educated compositional choices that balance reasoning with intuition.

Book A Scar Where Goodbyes Are Written

Download or read book A Scar Where Goodbyes Are Written written by David M. Brunson and published by LSU Press. This book was released on 2023-02-08 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Scar Where Goodbyes Are Written is a bilingual anthology of poetry written by fifteen Venezuelan poets who are currently residing in Chile. Edited and translated by David M. Brunson, the volume encompasses the work of young poets coming from many different circumstances. Some have already published several books, while others have just begun their careers as writers. The vast majority of the original Spanish texts appeared in books, anthologies, and magazines across Chile, Venezuela, and elsewhere in the Hispanosphere. In recent years, more than six million people have fled Venezuela in one of the world’s largest mass migrations, stemming in part from an ongoing humanitarian crisis caused by the country’s backsliding into authoritarianism, brutal political repression, corruption, food and medical shortages, violent crime, hyperinflation, and the mismanagement of Venezuela’s natural and financial resources, first by Hugo Chávez and presently by Nicolás Maduro. Begun during Brunson’s travels in Chile amid the 2019–2020 protest movement, this dual-language collection aims to elevate the individual voices of each migrant poet, to connect them with new readers, and to enrich the body of literature available in English.

Book The Time Machine of Adolf Hitler

Download or read book The Time Machine of Adolf Hitler written by Henry Goldman and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2020-08-15 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What would you think, if I told you that Nazi Germany managed to create an artifact that allowed them to manipulate space-time? You would call me crazy, right? But, what if the one who did it was an individual who lived at that time and worked on it, and even more so, showed all the palpable evidence before the world, would you believe it?The story that you will read is one of the most fascinating true stories that I have heard and that I discovered fortuitously in the voice of 2 survivors of what happened and possessors of the truth of their father. The original documents from Germany from 1940 give it a unique and trustworthy strength. It was October 2016 and on a routine trip I made to Germany for work reasons, in the neighborhood where I lived I met two women, one of them extremely special, beyond her extreme beauty or that age did not pass in her, she had something that made it unique: its origin. You will soon know why.As days went by, I made a nice friendship with both of them, but what they told me one afternoon; it was madness, these words came from her lips. For decades we hope to find a trustworthy person and finally we find you. Until then I did not understand anything, then they continued. For the trust you have shown us all this time and your disinterested treatment without expecting anything in return, we will show you the proofs of a story that only a handful have seen around the world and not even our family knows..Despite my affection for them for a moment I felt strange and I thought many things, but when they began to relate and show me documents one by one; all made sense and I went into shock. It was all about a dangerous project that Third Reich Germany had secretly developed at the end of 1940 and that until now no one alive had related with evidence. In the course of later talks and knowing that I was a journalist, they begged me to carry out the last wish of their father in life: that someone write her story and reveal to the world the truth of humanity's most important experiment that no one knows. I accepted without thinking twice, because I had already verified more than 1000 original pages of the entire project; and it was awesome.I captured as best I could everything they told me and in the same way what was written in the memories of his father, the protagonist of this story, the German physicist AR GIRLAND.They made me swear not to reveal their identities primarily to safeguard the integrity of their family. Also, they assured me that perhaps later they would show the world all the palpable evidence of the story that you will read next.I want to emphasize that the story I tell is real, and that for no reason will I reveal the identity and location of both women; even if that costs me my life. I know that they did not want to show me the second pillar of documents that were in the second box where possibly the specific location of this device is, it is for this reason that all this is so dangerous. Before saying goodbye to them at the end of 2016, with tears in their eyes they told me that it would probably be the last time for safety that we would meet physically, but that by mail they would let me know when they would be ready to tell the world: the truth.

Book Per el afortunado

Download or read book Per el afortunado written by Henrik Pontoppidan and published by Ediciones de la Torre. This book was released on 2008-06 with total page 954 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
