Download or read book Markus Oehlen written by Markus Oehlen and published by Walther Konig Verlag. This book was released on 2008 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first comprehensive monograph on Markus Oehlen which focuses upon his work spanning three decades, from 1981 to 2008. Often associated with the Neue Wilde art movement in Germany his work in painting and sculpture is influenced by other German artists such as Martin Kippenberger, Werner Büttner and Georg Herold. As well as his artistic activities Oehlen was also a musician and in the 1980s he was the former drummer in Fehlfarben, one of the first German punk bands. He is currently a Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich. The essays of Wolfgang Ullrich, Harald Falckenberg and Martin Prinzhorn explore Oehlan's art from different perspectives: from the 'line of sight', to the abstract sculptures from styrofoam bodies, to concrete painting in the 1990s. Richly illustrated with over 100 colour images this catalogue was published in association with the Galerie Bärbel Grässlin, Frankfurt am Main, and Galerie Hans Mayer, Düsseldorf. English and German text.

Download or read book Transavanguardia written by Ida Gianelli and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First exhibited in the late 1970s, the Transavanguardia seemed to oppose radical experimental media in a return to expressive practices in painting and sculpture. The Transavanguardia first achieved notice with an exhibition held at the Kunsthalle, Basel, and participated in the 1982 Documenta 7. These five artists--Sandro Chia, Francesco Clemente, Enzo Cucchi, Nicola De Maria and Mimmo Paladino--were quickly recognized as a distinct movement and have exhibited both individually and as Transavanguardia including at the Guggenheim New York. This catalog of the Fall 2002 exhibition at Castello di Rivoli examines the spontaneous emergence of this group in 80 works with English/Italian essays by Jean-Christophe Ammann, Achille Bonito Oliva, Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev and John Yau.

Paladino considers his art nomadic, based on repeated passages and explains that for nomadic means a crossing of various territories from art, both in geographical or temporal, made with the greatest technical and creative freedom. The monograph, which documents some 400 works, including paintings and sculptures, testifies over thirty years of his creative career .

Book excerpt: "The concept of the beautiful has undergone profound changes during the last half of the twentieth century, as has our way of considering everything that is called art. We need a new key to help us "know how to see" so that we can stay attuned to what is going on in the contemporary world of art where new aesthetic styles are appearing and being challenged one after the other." "This book by Lea Vergine, which discusses seventeen different art movements in separate chapters, offers, within the panorama of contemporary art criticism books, a blend between a handy art-history manual and an assessment of a cultural adventure that has passed through and overturned the parameters of taste of the last forty years. The clear and incisive writing style guides the reader, student or specialist, whatever his or her specific interests and curiosities, like an essential travel kit for understanding today's reality, grasping its raison d'etre, and above all, plunging into its multiple mutations."
