Book excerpt: La qualification des agents de stérilisation est une obligation réglementaire depuis l’arrêté du 22 juin 2001 sur les Bonnes Pratiques de Pharmacie Hospitalière. Celle-ci impose que le personnel participant à la préparation des dispositifs médicaux stériles en stérilisation soit formé et évalué. Or à l’heure actuelle, il n’existe pas de diplôme d’agent de stérilisation et ceci pose le problème du niveau de formation et du recrutement parmi les agents de stérilisation.La formation n’étant pas satisfaisante à l’hôpital Saint Antoine, nous avons élaboré un programme de formation avec les agents de stérilisation. La formation initiale de tout nouvel arrivant comprend désormais 11 semaines de formation pratique sous forme de tutorat, 8 heures de formation théorique réalisées en interne, 3 passages au bloc opératoire et une formation de conducteur d’autoclave par un organisme extérieur. L’agent est habilité après avoir suivi le programme de formation initiale et qu’il a validé toutes les évaluations pratiques et théoriques. Pour chaque composante de cette formation initiale : le planning, les horaires, les temps de formation sont définis ainsi que les personnes responsables de la formation et de l’évaluation. Des supports de formation sont mis à disposition des nouveaux agents et des tuteurs, ainsi que des fiches d’évaluation pour l’encadrement. Concernant la formation continue, elle comprend une formation théorique réactualisée tous les ans et des présentations régulières pour la réactualisation des connaissances sur les DM. Le programme mis en place montre que la formation en stérilisation est une formation spécifique et longue.En parallèle de ce travail, nous avons mené une enquête sur la formation des agents de stérilisation dans différents établissements de soins, répartis sur tout le territoire français. Les résultats montrent qu’une formation est généralement mise en place cependant elle est encore mal définie et les moyens sont très différents d’un établissement à un autre. Le contexte hospitalier public est malheureusement peu adapté à la reconnaissance d’une formation interne en stérilisation. Un diplôme d’agent de stérilisation permettrait une véritable reconnaissance de la formation mais pour l’instant le ministère de l’éducation nationale s’y oppose.

Safety of surgical allografts is, therefore, a major concern due to microbial and viral contamination of tissues which is now a problem even in the most sophisticated centres. The Presidents of the main Professional Association of Tissue Banks; American, European and Latin American met in Vienna to review the situation and concluded that the time was opportune to organise an international high level expert meeting, which would identify the best method of using radiation technology to assist in the production of safe tissue allografts Sterilisation of biological tissues with ionising radiations provides the information on this subject presented at an international meeting in Wales, supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency. New methods of protecting the tissues were presented which at the same time allow the use of sufficiently high doses of ionising radiations to inactivate invading organisms. The authors were also asked to provide the scientific and technical basis that provides the rationale of the processes they describe. Also, the scope of the book has been somewhat extended. In view of the fact that many cellular therapies are now routinely practiced, 2 new chapters have been added: one on the banking of haematopoietic stem cells and one on human embryonic stem cells. They have been deliberately chosen to illustrate the extreme spectrum of cellular therapies from one of the simplest to one of the most complex.
