Bascula, por tanto, entre lo conceptual y lo profesional, entre la reflexión y la aplicación práctica. Refleja las teorías, pero también las prácticas y estrategias que en aquella tienen su fundamento. Por la calidad de sus textos y la singularidad de sus planteamientos y propuestas, casi sin pretenderlo, va a ser un documento imprescindible y orientador de la educación y pedagogía social. Parte del principio de la necesidad de normalizar y descriminalizar la infancia, también la infancia con problemas, no sólo conceptualmente sino sobre todo en la praxis. Pretende ambientarse en posiciones críticas, pero sin desechar las concreciones técnicas y evaluadoras. Inserta la problemática del menor en una concepción y praxis integradora, en la que la promoción y participación de la infancia y juventud se convierten en ejes en torno a los cuales se deben formular todas las políticas de infancia, incluidas las de menores en conflicto social, huyendo lo más posible de planteamientos demasiado sectoralizados, tanto en las conceptualizaciones como en las actuaciones.Es un libro que busca el equilibrio entre la descripción del fenómeno de la llamada ?educación social especializada? y la elaboración disciplinar y científica de la correspondiente Pedagogía Social Especializada, que es motivo de otra publicación en esta colección. En definitiva, quiere ser un texto para la docencia y además un manual de utilidad para profesionales de la educación social. La mayoría de los autores tienen o han tenido experiencias de tipo profesional en los campos objeto de sus escritos. Hay un claro esfuerzo de formulación teórica y conceptual de lo que los profesionales hacen o deben hacer. Recoge el estado de la cuestión en relación con la educación y pedagogía social especializada(con menores), sobre todo en lo que se refiere a España. Cuando se habla, pues, de Educación Social Especializada o de Pedagogía Social Especializada, se entiende la educación o pedagogía aplicable a menores en dificultad social , por un lado, y a menores en conflicto social, por otro, o como otros les llaman o han llamado: asociales, disociales, inadaptados, desviados sociales, difíciles, menores infractores, delincuentes... Las palabras son importantes porque vehiculan ser, ideas e implican una praxis determinada, aunque no necesariamente. En cualquier caso, no deben ser obstáculo para que nos entendamos. Todas las palabras clasifican y acaban desvirtuándose.
